cools sounds good...make sure you keep us all posted on the cars progress

not really shure on a color i was thinking yellow cause theres not alot of yellow cars around here. i was going to start a thread to get people to post pics of there cars to see what kind of colors are out there to choose from.

theres actually a recent thread thats been going on here about posting pics of your dusters....lots of carporn on this site, just gotta search for it...its definatly inspirational and will give ya lots of ideas (at times maybe even too many ideas lol)

im liking briankaplans duster with that green and that hood. and could anyone tell me what kind of hood that is? in the duster posts.

I think for ease of budget, I'd grab a swap meet four barrel intake and carb, stick the large Summit brand cam and lifters, along with a timing set, replacement performance springs, replacement valve seals, and 8 stock 318 exh valve spring retainers while you're doing the springs. Then have a good 2 1/4" custom dual exhaust system made. I'd think you can get all the stuff and do it for less than $1000.

well right now im putting half my pay check in the bank and half into the car fund.(absolutely no social life anymore, always broke even with a job lol) so about 60 - 65 dollars a week into the car fund. 240 a month and right now im working on getting floors and trunk pan in the car. then working on the motor trans and rear. and right now i have about a month saved. and the swap meets arent for another couple of months so i have time to save.

first off I would think you want something like this as your final project: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27196&highlight=buster. I picked it up when I was 17 and had it painted in 5 months. I'm 20 now and have leather seats and EFI, but you got some time.
First my aunt's Mach 1 Mustang with a warmed over 351 C has a hard time clicking off 15's with a set of 4.11's. Sadly enough I'm still argueing with my roomate that his zz4 69' camaro is going to have a difficult time getting into the 13's but hey, well never know if he never races me.
To start with how much are a set of J-heads nowadays? I metion this becuase I usually get a set of other heads and get them ready and strap them onto the motor. I have full faith you could port and polish a set with reasonable results and dress the heads for a set of headers. You could pull and replace the heads at the same time as an intake and carb replacement. I have a hard time choking header prices for their benefit. Since they are a multiplier of what your engine flows would be better to get a head flowing than not. Bigger valves, 3 angle and guides shouldn't be expensive if you have a good shop around. Than shop for a intake on ebay and rebuilt carb or something I would think you could bring this in for $500-800??? Headers need to be followed up with a full exhaust system not a path I would eagarly follow. Just another path...

yea your right i have the time and i also have another car i can drive while i get the money to get the car back on the road.

I would probably do a oil pressure, compression test and a leakdown test before starting on engine work. That will give you a starting point. No need to spend alot of money and time if the bottom end isn't good. I went 15.00 in the 1/4 with my old 72 Dart with the same engine and carburetor as you, until the cam wiped. Don't think you will be doing a compression test today- its like 10 degrees out. Borrow your uncle Todds engine, that will idle at 650 rpm in gear and still run 12's. Tell him you will break it in for him.

Good luck! I bought my dart when I was 13 for 100 dollars. It had a slant six with 7 1/4. It took me until I was 16 to get it on the road. I put a roll bar, frame connectors, s/s springs. Then I built a 318 for it and a 904. The rearend is a 8 3/4 with 4.10 gears. The first time i went to the track I ran 13.67@99 mph. I then changed intake and cam and ran my best this past year ,12.90@103 mph. I paid for all of it, worked at a quick lube to pay for this, I am 19 now. The body on my car is rusty, but I always think power before beauty. Building this car was a blast and kept me out of trouble so I say good luck! Anything is possible.

yea the cold really isnt helping with the tear down and cleaning of the car. i should cause the motors been there for how long now? like 5-10 years but hes been wanting to put it in now for a while. but if he goes at the rate that hes been going at for the last couple of years it'll be a few years til it gets back into his car. and we also noticed that the rear is leaking not the gas tank but we cant tell where its coming from. i'd be out there working on the car but its just way to cold to do anything right now.

yea i saw that motor, but i want to see if this motor is good or not if it is good we will keep it if not then i will be looking at all my options then
