Possibly a lot of you are aware of this product but it was new to me. It is called a ‘key lock thread repair’. My local machine shop guy said these are much better than ‘helicoils’ and used them to repair stripped threads on my 4 speed shifter mount. The hole is drilled out and threaded to a larger size. This is then threaded in and the pins driven down using a hammer and special tool. Seems like a good way to maintain original size threads and stronger in aluminum. I don’t see how they could possibly back out when removing a bolt.

IMO, those are the best way to repair threads. Helicoils are for a one shot assembly in a pinch - at least in my mind.

If it ever needs to come apart again, keenserts are the way.
