I am going to take off the old shitty factory exhaust manifolds this winter and replace them with headers. What I am wondering is-will this change the sound of my car? I hope not as I love the way it sounds now. The manifolds I have now are late model 318 manifolds and I am running magnaflow 40 series mufflers behind a 340.

You wouldn't consider going to 340 driver and 360 magnum passenger manifolds. They are both a little over 2 1/4" exhaust hole and probably a lot cheaper. Then you won't need to worry about changing the sound. I sell these ready to install. Of course if you are dead set on headers then I recommend you buy a good set because many don't fit well and or hang really low for street driving. Unfortunately the real good one cost quite a lot!!

PS - You might also need to be prepared to deal with header leaks.

Yes, yes it will......The engine bay will be quite a bit louder and you'll have more chop in your exhaust, even with the same cam. Those heavy iron logs really dampen out the exhaust pulses and add about 2 feet of common exhaust pipe. A crossover helps reduce the chop at the bumper.

Pishta!! Do you know if the manifolds I sell will work on 65/66 A bodies with P/S. I get many questions about this issue and since I own a 69 A body I have no way of verifying if they fit. Is it possible to raise the motor to get P/S clearance. I need a definitive answer because half of the members who want my manifolds keep asking the same question.

Thanks, sorry about hijacking but many members need to know!!

I was looking for advise, NOT to have someone try to sell me something. If you feel the need to let the members here know that you are selling manifolds start your thread instead of high jacking mine. I already have the headers so NO thanks.

I think the sound will change some. It's all personal preference if you like it not.

As long as you buy a quality header you won't have to worry about header leaks. Hell even with a cheap header and a set of remflex gaskets I'll bet leaks won't be an issue.

For now it is cheap headers ( Hedman) with good gaskets until I can afford the good ones. Just can NOT stand looking at the 318 manifolds anymore. Would not be so bad if they were good flowing manifolds, but that is not the case.

That definitely sounds like advise to me. I didn't know that you already had headers. If you had mentioned that in your first post I wouldn't have had any input. I was offering options in case other members said that it would change the sound (something you were concerned about). Sorry about the attempt to help. I'll stay out of your thread.

    X2 on the Remflex gaskets.
I run Hedmans and the gaskets are solid and sealed even with a busted off rear stud.
