The other day a Spokane city bus killed a biker going around a corner. Today they ruled it a suicide. Not too sure that's the method I'd pick........

STA motorcycle crash
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Spokane County Medical Examiner has released the identity of the motorcyclist who was killed after colliding with an STA bus at the intersection of Crestline and N. Foothills and confirmed it was a suicide.

Thomas Samples, 52, died from lacerations of the heart and aorta due to blunt chest injury after his motorcycle, traveling westbound on Euclid, approached the intersection at Crestline and collided with an STA bus which was turning left from N. Foothills onto northbound Crestline.

The medical examiner's officer reported Thursday morning it looked at the police investigation and talked with witnesses at the scene before making the determination that Samples' death was the result of a suicide.

Earlier this week the Spokane Police Department reported the STA bus was already turning left when the light turned yellow and the motorcyclist had a steady red light by the time he approached the intersection and collided with the bus.

Both the Spokane Police Department and Spokane Transit Authority are running separate investigations into the fatal collision, both of which are ongoing.

The bus driver involved in the collision is on administrative leave."

suicide? wonder how they came to that conclusion.
I think jumping the snake river would have been a more pleasant death, beautiful, just think of the scenery. no mess to clean up.

First thought I had, many years ago an old neighbor who kept to himself---often I would see him feeding squirrels--- stepped in front of a speeding bus on purpose. What a way to go.

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather. Not screaming, like everybody else in his car.

Since it's suicide, they won't have to bother with a lawsuit then, right? Or am I just being crass?

My uncle was driving his Semi in southern BC just outside of Hope a few years ago and a dude suicided directly into the front of his truck in a caravan. Luckily a passerby pulled my uncle from the burning wreck. If you know BC there is really only one insurance company so the lawsuit is still going!

I don't know how someone could do that and also change someone else's life as well by including them... very sad

There was never more of the story published that I ever found

I just searched and found a follow-up in the cbc archived stories

Regardless of the effect on others, certainly the bus driver, this just doesn't seem to me a very "sure bet" to do yourself in. "You could live." And THAT might turn out to be very uncomfortable
