6900 and 6901. Just for fun a couple you tube videos.

The 6900 is quite mild and the 6901 is a bit angry at idle. Interesting the @.050 specs are a bit different but the advertised specs and lift are similar. Listen to the videos. Of course the timing and carb adjustments are different.

#6900 1200-5000 rpm
204/214 278/288
421/444 112°

#6901 1800-5500 rpm
218/228 276/288
441/441 114°

#6900 video. Idle at 2.00 min.

#6901 video sounds like it's hangry and needs a Snickers!

Don't know who makes 'um but both are good budget cams.
I ran the #6901 in my 68 273. I liked it.

That particular 6901 sounds a lot stouter than what the specs say. pangasket had one in his D100 and it was nothing as lopey as that.

I have the 6901 in the 318 I stuffed in my Duster this spring. Great bottom end for what it is, I think some tuning problems are hurting me at the higher RPMs though. It hits a wall just before 5000.

Sounds nice
Good street sound

My latest Summit catalog says these cams do not meet made in USA standards.
Hmm. Might sound good but it might be for too long....

They were at one time. Crane used to grind all the Summit shafts. No more, unfortunately.

Who grinds them now? I had bought the 6900 for a 318 build and ended up changing course i sold it and went with a luniti instead

I don't know. From what @Bewy posted, evidently someone overseas does.

I like the 3rd Summit cam option that I put in my 318.... .454/272 advertised. I believe it's the old Crane Fireball, but I could be wrong.

Cam is still made in the USA, it is a CWC core, lube is made in USA as well. Label on white box shows a date of 10/27/2021. No need to instill doubt as to whether the cams are still made here or over seas, post your findings when you actually have the cam in your hands, anything else is BS :realcrazy:

So the cam will give you cancer, but the lube won't. I guess one out of two ain't bad.

“My guess is”, the not conforming to “made in USA” footnote refers to the cam & lifter kits....... cuz the lifters aren’t made here.

For those contemplating purchasing/wondering how the Summit Racing SUM-1789 cam measures at the various lifts this is what we’ve come up with today:

Cam is the same as the old Crane 272 Energizer.
Specs as Advertised:

272° Advertised
216° @ .050”
.454” lift (w/1.5 rocker ratio)
110 LSA

What we measured as best possible:

271° @ .004”
263° @ .006”
257° @ .008”
215° @ .050”
183° @ .100”
122° @ .200”
Lobe Lift .304”

Using a Comp Cams Magnum Roller timing set installed “dot to dot” yielded:

102° ICL
Cam card shows 105° ICL
If we were able to retard the cam exactly 3° all the @ .050” cam timing events would match up to the cam card.

Check things and adjust the centerline as desired and call it good:thumbsup:

Gotta be made in America. I know some guys that won’t buy that other junk. Lol.
Everyone has something to say about cams made over seas but who’s actually bought a cam (shelf or custom) in the past or even recently where what they received ended up being a foreign made core, ground here or elsewhere? I haven’t, have you? Anyone else? What companies are doing this? People need to start posting proof that it’s happening. With the core supply issue though it may happen soon and that’s all we’ll get here on out.

Ohhhhh I agree. I gave up buying American when America stopped producing what I want. I have no issues paying a little more as long as I’m getting quality in return. But some guys say they won’t buy offshore crap but then do so. Just rubbing a little salt if you know what I mean. Lol

I’m thinking buying one of these cheapy-cheap summits and sending it off to a regrinder while still available wouldn’t be such a bad idea, they do have a large base circle, lots of room, still be reasonable cost vs. getting a custom cam from the usual suspects ain’t cheap as it is...if they had cores to begin with

You do hear about Summit cams failing, but in fairness:
- they sell heaps of them
- the lifters used may have been of questionable quality
- the break in procedure may have been sub par

So far, have only seen opinions, no facts on grind quality or metallurgy of these cams.

Whatever this is worth, I put the 6900 cam and lifters in my 318 last year and have driven about 3000 miles with no issues. Used the supplied break-in lube, high zinc oil, and left the stock springs for break-in. I'm ashamed to say, the engine was cranked way too long before firing and running and the cam still seemed to survive. Pulls 19" at idle.
