swap an old engine in a newer charger?

Someone swapped a 6bt and an nv4500 into one. if they could do that, then you could probably make almost anything work with enough time and money.

And the 6BT is mechanical and not electronic. You can put that engine in anything and as long as you provide fuel and electricity to the starter you can make it run. A late model Challenger with a old engine needs it all to run. In the late model cars with the Can Bus system, all modules input to the computer including modules such as power seat, window, HVAC etc. It all has to work or none of it works properly. The only hope in installing a old school engine in a new car would be if someone could design a computer to fool all those inputs into thinking that a late model engine was under the hood.

What about some deletes?

Do it!! As far as the electronics, best bet would probably be to completely gut the car and rewire the whole thing similar to how you'd wire a restomod with power windows, seats, a/c, etc.

No emissions testing?! I had no idea. With that problem aside, it's just a matter of will to do this.

I hate to suggest this but as much as we love our classic smallblock V8s, all of the tech that we loathe has been an evolution of the tech that made these engines to begin with.

Seldom do they make engines worse (late 70s not withstanding). Expect to see vastly worse fuel economy and probably not much better performance unless you drop in a hot-rodded motor...which also means giving up street manners.

I'm going to be the wet blanket here and suggest that you consider a Pentastar V6 which are all aluminum, ~300hp right out of the box and will possibly bolt right up to your motor mounts and transmission. ECU issues, I have no idea.
