Seeing this thread..Caught a shoplifter today !.....
Got me thinking about a neighbor. Lives in a tent, no utilities. Him, his wife and 2 kids. Has a wood burning stove for heat. Craps in a bucket. He now has several of his buddies living with him. Don't know how but he goes thru vehicles like most of us go thru toilet paper lol...Needless to say because he is a "free traveler" the vehicle does not have plates...nor does he have a license. Amazed how folks can turn welfare into a career.
Neighbor between us was enabling them for a while. Had a hose hooked up to a hydrant for water. Long extension cords etc. Alex, the enabler, has since stopped.
Tent boy grows weed...outside in the dirt. While it has been legal to do so, or so I am told, with the possession of a "medical Marijuana card" that is about to change next month...if I understood an article I recently read. From what I understand if you want to grow pot here in Washington state effective sometime in July you will need to have your property surrounded with an 8' fence, security cameras and a security system. Can't help but notice the Stevens County Sheriffs cruising by. Have seen them more in the past 6 weeks than I have in the previous 7 years of living here.
Found out that one of the "fine upstanding citizens" he has living on his property is a registered sex offender. Apparently she just had a baby, just before she was locked up for something. I have seen Sheriffs on there property several times...always with a pair of well dressed women.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that folks can live however they see fit. And generally don't care what anybody does. But to subject kids to this kind of stuff is bothersome, to say the least. Tent boy and his wife have claimed to be disabled...have claimed to be .00001% Native American....he wears a kilt on and off, claiming to be Scottish....interesting folks...
Apologies for rambling...

Doug I went to the local mini market one day recently and there was a station wagon parked in front with two scummy dirty looking fat people in nasty dirty clothes (male and female) and a little girl about 10 or so in the back seat with what looked like a pre WW2 plantation slave dress on.
They (without getting out) stopped me and said they were traveling and had car trouble that took all their money to fix and were stranded here until they could come op with enough money to get their little girl back home.
I didn't say a word to them but looked at the little girl and asked her if she went to school?
She said yes, so I told her to stay in school no matter what, and get the best education she could so she didn't end up in the local parking lots lying to people and using her kids as an excuse to sit in a car, get too fat and lazy to work and begging for their hard earned money.
She nodded her head and said she would. (poor little thing I felt so sorry for her)
I felt a little bad for saying that afterwards, but if it helped her from being like that then so be it.

(I had seen that same car with them in it around town in parking lots a bunch of times over the past year or so)

trailbeast, some people use this " begging" thing as a profession. probably having to do so to pay off student loans!

people like the above mentioned, do no make it is easy for anyone to want to help those that truly deserve help. it is hard to separate them.

Consumers that don't contribute with either goods or services are the worst form of pollution.....

I help people a lot, but not ones that lie about why they need it.
They would have been better off asking for the money to go take a bath, or better yet to get their little girl clothes that were not embarrassing to be seen in.

I know about the panhandling profession.
Did you happen to see the 60 minutes run about the guy in Vegas that made over a million a year and lived in the phone booth.

The interviewer asked the casino's why they would send a Limo to pick him up every day, and they told him "because he spends hundreds of thousands of dollars there."
Now that's a pro.:D

Told my boss the other day that I was looking for a part time job, but all the good street corners were taken. Beggars all over the city of Springfield Mo. Along with help wanted signs. As far as I'm concerned, if you can stand around and hold a sign, you can work.

I've thought about taking an ice chest, a bottle of bourbon and a lawn chair to a street corner and hanging out wirh a sign that says, 'I work 60+ hours a week and make decent money. But I'm married so i need extra money to support my car habit. Anything will help.' I'd bet I'd end up with a good chunk of change just for the honesty factor!..

Here's one...

he is honest!? maybe.... can't the dude find free sex????

I came up with a good 60 minutes show.? get a good stat man and show the number/ % of Americans that work and pay taxes/ their % taxes paid on their income, ... the number of able people that don't work and live off the govn't ( that is the people that do work).... the number of illegals, the number of able bodied people with no health problem that hired a crooked lawyer and get SSD, etc tec.....

never happen....

Wait till late august. Dress up as Santa with a sign that reads out of work till Christmas. Elves and Raindeer are hungry. That and a few scantly clad female Elves to collect the money. Raised a lot of money for a kids charity several years ago doing that. Even made the local news.
