"The best in brakes"? Really?

I know, it's not a master cylinder for a Mopar, but, since my local auto parts store only had a made in China part for my Toyota PU, I figured I'd search online for a good ole American brand that hopefully was made somewhere in the free world. A found what i thought was a great option.....Raybestos.....a tried and true brand I've used for decades. It was even slightly cheaper than the local Chinesium one at O'Reilly's, including the shipping. Took 10 days to get it 3 days longer than they promised, but, ok. Then I opened the package and looked at the box.... At least the f'ing thing works.....for now anyway......

So many companies have changed hands (and where stuff is manufactured) these days. No longer does the brand name mean quality.

Most names are just that. Same place makes the same part under different licensed names. Look at Coleman, 50 years ago you got good quality stuff, now its just a brand name put on cheap ****.

I fell into the same Raybestos trap when I order wheel cylinders and hoses for the wife's car. So disappointing

I am also a long time Raybestos user and believer. I have been upset by the maid in China on the box as well, but I have found that some of the parts I’ve gotten cheaper and so far no failures or quality issues.

That's why if I am not in a bind where I gotta have it "right now" I buy old stock off of eBay. Better quality and usually cheaper too.

I tend to agree with the op, I don't like chinamade parts either and I try to find parts that aren't whenever I can. Yes raybestos used to be the best but no more. Back in the day you had them, you had Bendix and you had Wagner... All had different grades for each brand of car they offered parts for.
There were a couple of others that were decent like EIS, which I used alot of In the shop ( they provided a lot of parts for car quest back in the day)
But as brakes and suspension are your 2 most important systems, I won't accept store brand parts unless the sales person can tell me definitely who they were really made by ..
I'm talking duralast and the like.

I'll always shop American...and pay-up for it, if I must (not that much other than NOS can be found).
The Chinese have done a good job of taking out our parts manufacturers, but it's these "name brands" that are the sell-outs.

We all have a claim in this demise. Our drive to buy cheaper, was just the opening that was needed and now they can charge what they want....they cleared the playing field
