Frank, I just checked the slip because you had me doughting myself!
.......but I was rite #3300 I'll post a pic.

Don't forget the Dart has a 3" longer wheel base. Plus the notch is 100lbs lighter than a fastback.

These #'s are from DMV registration that goes by vin# but ya can't swear by DMV
'69 notch 318...2900lbs
'69 notch 440...3195lbs
'69 FB 340.......3100lbs

OK! Then that makes sense!

Sheesh... so a '73 Duster V8 weighs about the same as a '69 Barracuda ("'Cuda") big block...
Ya learn someting every day! :D

The worse thing I have driven was a 70 Camaro that looked mostly stock but we put a 454 small block in it on 10" slicks it ran 9:60 but I think I added an extra 200 yards to the 1/4 by going back and forth across the track then we found out the rubber mounting pads for the rear axle had broken up and the rear axle would slide back and forth a 1/2" or so. Needless to say I hated that ride and I still think the smell is in the car but it is a Chevy you may not notice it

Try stopping this car quickly at 110 MPH.

Gent,

In 1969, the Plymouth 440 'Cuda was classed in 'C/SA' in NHRA Stock Class, and SS/GA in Super/Stock.

Weight-to-Horsepower Break was {8.50 to 8.99 Wt/Hp}

Other '1969' Model Cars in those classes;

* 1969 Dodge Dart GTS 440 {440/375 HP}
* 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 'Six-Barrel' {440/390 HP}
* 1969 Dodge Super Bee 'Six-Pack' {440/390 HP}
* 1969 Chevelle SS 396 {396/375 HP}

Note; The following Models were only available with a 4-Speed Transmission, and were classed in 'C/S' in Stock Class
or 'SS/G' in Super/Stock.
* 1969 Chevrolet Corvette {350/350 HP}
* 1969 Ford Mustang 'Boss 429' {429/370 HP}

Wow, same class as a 6 pack car!

I had a '69 Coronet R/T with a 440, hemi 4 speed, 3:54 Dana. It had no power steering and manual 11'' drum brakes. All stock except for headers and electronic ignition.
It shifted stiff, the clutch was stiff, steering was hard, and braking? You had to really plan in advance i will tell you.
Parallel parking was a ***** to put it mildly, and you had to drive it like you meant it or it wasn't fun or easy to drive......and man did that car go! I could easily boil the tires off.
Not the kind of car that an old lady could drive easily for sure.
You could get yourself in a lot of trouble really fast if you weren't paying attention.
Gawd i loved that car and wish i had it back!
I'll bet the 'Cuda was worse because it was so nose heavy with the 440 and all.
No wonder why they called them muscle cars, you had to use every muscle in your body just to drive them!

Yes,

The 1969 Dodge Super Bee 440 'Six-Pack' and Plymouth Road Runner 440 'Six-Barrel'
cars were found in the same Stock Class 'C/SA' as the 1969 440 'Cuda and 1969 Dart GTS 440.

As well as 'SS/GA' in Super/Stock

Weight distribution wise, the B-Body was better at the Drag Strip, and hooked up much better.

And on 'Top End', once those 3 Holley Carbs opened up, that Hood Scoop sucked in
anything that wasn't anchored down, including small Children.

And 11" Drum Brakes were 'halting' better than the 10" Drum Brakes on the 440 'Cuda or Dart GTS 400.

I know it's not a mopar but my Sunbeam Tiger has always scared me no matter how long it's been in the family. Try Dana 44 with 13" wheels and now 400 hp 289 with close ratio top loader. All of the performance parts on the car are vintage LAT ( losangeles tigers ) options.

My buddies Tiger....Runs 9:80's, he has owned it since new. It now has wheelie bars, he also has a fresh pair of shorts on!

Fastest Mopar I ever road in, was my high school friends street 64 Fury (in 1965). It was the ex Hayden Profit 426 hemi car. His parents bought it for him for graduation.It was bad and scary with street tires, and 4-5-sixes in the diff.
I thought at the time it was stupid, 'cause it had no radio, carpet (just rubber mat),no heater and a cheap bench seat!

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dave

Mr. GTX,

Another 'Model 1969' car classed with the 1969 Plymouth 440 'Cuda in
'C/SA' or 'SS/GA'

The 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 'RA-IV' Ram-Air {400/345 HP}

* Shipping Weight = #3319 lbs. ~ 345 HP = {9.88 Wt/HP}

The NHRA also re-factored the Horsepower to 370 HP in 1969.

#3319 lbs. ~ 370 HP = {8.97 Wt/HP}

Scariest stocker I rode in? My 65 Barracuda with singe pot M/C 9 inch drums. You get those wet and the brake felt like a clutch. Couple that with a warm 340 and 3 passengers and it turned into a hairy cruiser a speed. It was insane with a 451 in it and it had disk brakes then. That was a 6.27 Wt/HP ride!

Yea don't see many drag tigers but there were a few in the 70's that did real well. Problem as with most small drag cars, anglia etc, was of course wheelbase. I wouldn't dream about cutting mine up to make a drag car but I have ran it a couple times on street tires but couldn't hook at all and still managed 12.30's but I was peddling and swerving all over trying to find anything for the tires to hold onto. Never thought I'd see the day where they are getting close to 6 figures. Can never sell a family member.
That aside I rode in a Chevelle SS454 4 Sp that was Nickey Modded that scared the **** out of me how violently that sucker pulled all with early 70's dealer available mods and tuning. Nothing on the car had anything changed from when it was modded originally ordered by first owner. I'm not a Chevy guy by any means but I'd stay clear of that sucker at a light.

1969 Plymouth 440 'Cuda

While there are several 'Factory Stock' cars that were quicker, on the 'scariest'
ride for handling and stopping, it was the most dangerous car.

And 'off-the-line' burn outs, it was #1.

Again with the chevy stuff.....A customer had a 67 el camino SS396. Traction was not a factory option on that car! He broke the back tires loose at 60 and had me wanting to head back to the barn for the night! The brakes were nothing to brag about either.....

Also for your info I run a '69 440 'cuda ONLY registry. Rite now I have like 108 cars! Always looking to add a new one, let me know of any you may know, see or find. Pics of cars, tags, vin#. Thanks, Dave

hi dave,

could you add my M-Code to your registry. it is on FABO now under the thread "My M-Code is finally getting worked on." AMD is finishing the car next week. they have had it over a year. this car was sadly cut up into a full blown hemi drag car by some guys in Boston. i tried to buy it about 5 years ago without the race hemi but the guy wasn't interested. then about a year ago the same car appeared again on ebay this time with a race 440 and belonging to an old mopar expert in bartelsville, OK that had a race shop. he pulled the drive line out of it and sold me the rolling chassis. as i said it was all butchered and American Metal Direct has been converting it back to stock for the last year. there's a lot of pics of this work on the above thread i noted.

the VIN number is: BH29M9B244462

my information is: Jim Coster
1108 Peachtree Road
Carnegie, Pennsylvania 15106

let me know if you need more information.

thanks..
