I've been really busy lately. A lot of life going on...like most us i'm sure... and in between life battles...we might sit and ponder the projects plans n so forth. Right now Im putting my 340 back together at the moment and getting peices of the shelf to do it. I stripped it to a short block to do the heads and basically make upgrades.
I have a .030 over 70' 340 . It originally was out of a dual scoop 4spd dart that put a 360/380 crate in and then moved at to illinois about 16 or so yrs ago... anyways...I have a set of x heads i did up, 2.02 11/32 valves, had hard seats already...just had new guides and vj. I ported them/flowed them and they do 271-275cfm by .550 264-266cfm by .500 , 230's@.400 190's @.300 and so on. I pickes those up in 2002 and have ran them on 2 motors and went through them 2 or 3 times... i like fresh heads on every new configuration.
So i have a few cams..... about 6. Purples, schneiders, herbert. Though about using the roller from my 410...but...
I've choosen to use the engle .573 solid 110/252@.050 int closes @54 iirr...
I have a couple ld340, one ported some thw other stock, an old xcellerator, vic 340 to choose from tti's... should be a nice little rev'r with my 4 spd and 3.73 street gears.
Now the other day i bought something even though i told myself i wouldnt ... i bought a running .020 426 commando 1965 i think. came out of a belvedere... i dont know what im gonna put it in.. but i couldnt pass it up for the price... also i picked up another 4 ear 318 same casting as the last i bored 4.040...and i have another set of std 340 pistons laying around... might build it into a STOCK spec 340 ... but with these 302 heads i have 'the only reason i would use them for the amount of work to make them comparable to a stock j head' and put it in an abody for the wife... idk.. you know how it goes... sitting pondering what next.
I need to start liquidating extra **** im not using or havent in the 20+ yrs ive had the stuff. Everyone posts their plans and whatevers.. so there ya go.

We all want to be good Stewards of the mopar parts we have acquired and use. The only reason I have the mopar parts that I have is because some other mopar people over the years had the insight to save the stuff, knowing that others can make use of them even if they don't use them themselves. All of the parts have a history, and an interesting story of how they came to be and how they survived for the last 50 years and they can still be used again.

Life changes, things change, and projects change, selecting the next good mopar person to take over your extra parts will help to keep the classic mopars going for years to come and your efforts will not be in vane.

Feels Good . . .

Welcome to my mess then. This is where keep/pile most everything. I also share part of a shop up north in prather as well, cars, engines, transmissions not a ton but enough to just keep up with.
Today ill be digging to get to the parts and to roll and un bag the short block. its probably got about 12k on it... still see the cross hatch...oil burnt o to the pistons from an valley intake leak before i cut the intake .060 a side to fit right. Came across a set of rhs x as well, forgot about those. 383 .010 crank , bagged .010 360 crank, used 360 crank , aluminum 225 motor... a long time ago the goal was to build a 451 with a 400 block under bench that I have...but the 410 sb happened way easier..so that was shelved. I have the 915 closed chamber '67 heads for it too... 2.14/1.88 n ported is the plan...once the plan actually starts.haha oh man how plans are way sided so often...for the next latest idea...
pics of pre dug out parts and one w
before i pulled the heads. im gonna make space and line it all up in another post.

Great post.
That's exactly what i have been doing for several years and people call me a ''Hoarder''.
To me, a ''Hoarder'' has no intention to sell, use, or get rid of anything.
Then there are the people who will sell something that they don't intend on using, or trade for something that they want.
Sure, some parts and cars aren't for sale, but that's all part of the hobby..........

So the cam bearings, one is pitted...slows the process. Waiting on new cam bearings. Opened the oil holes on the main upper shells to correct size..pondering slotting them..though this might limit the oil to the cam some and I dont mind that at all. Full grooves Engine pro ebay.. repacked clevite -same numbers, minus clevite name & half the price! ;)
Heads painted and ready, have been, just been busy cleaning up and organizing the place. I made room for a pepsi machine..

Love that Pepsi machine. Pretty cool.

Cool Pepsi machine! Not to get off on a tangent, but how much difference does going to the 11/32 stems really make?

@MOPAROFFICIAL

Is this a thread for all to show what we are doing/planning?
Actually well...read the title.
**** I'm doing , but please share if you like.. I've got things that pop up and I got to put stuff on pause or switch gears on to a different project. This is kind of a ride along with my 340 refresh and findings as I go.

The combo of the ootb engine pro polished nail head and 11/32 stem nets 7 cfm. I've heard others say 9cfm with undercut..Ive taken pro stock elgin's and polished them and found 3-4 cfm.iirr
Your results may vary, brand, finish ,angle being very notable in comparing.

Maybe see about turning down an old 3/8 2.02 to see what a 11/32 is really worth by itself from the bottom up...lol **** just ditch that heavy pos 3/8 stem valve already!

Leftover parts build for a 340....
New KB slugs, rings and bearings on a stock crank.
My last never used, sitting on my shelf, collecting dust from years back, HFT cam from Crane.

It has a slow ramp cam that will probably last forever under its low stress nature. 290* advertised, 236 @.050 w/.497 lift - on a 108. It’ll just be in a no fan fair street ride. Certainly not setting the world on fire. But it’ll be OK for what I’m doing. Minor prep stock iron heads w/2.02’s, MP, HD rockers, typical headers/2-1/2 exhaust.
Minorly (SP?) worked on Factory TQ intake.

Below shows clay height differences between open chambered J heads and aluminum Edelbrock heads.
Deck bridge, cam degree wheel and pushrod set up.

If this is where it's going, that's cool but let's just throw it in the general and everyone can have at it.

That's some fancy ring square you got btw lol

Every little bit!

You can gap them tops within a wide range...that's why you dont need to spend on stuff like that. Put the ring in the bore, take the piston and set the ring square 'lining the pistons 2nd ring on hyper, oil ring on std pistons into the bore n up with the deck ..Done' . You can gap them all over, to an extent.. and not effect the power.
