Okay, guys. just think.
what if plymouth made the scamp like no other 70-76 a-body??????????
how would one look with the awesome look of the rally dash?
how about dual racing mirrors, hood scoops, 8 3/4, sure-grip chunk, sharktooth grille,, and other awesome ammenities.

so now lets go to the power dept. how bout the 340 , 275 h.p engine, backed by a a833 four speed monster?

now we are talking about a little devious street monster.

NOW, HOW WOULD YOU THINK THAT IF I TOLD YOU I COULD BUILD THIS CAR FOR UNDER 5,500 US DOLLARS, AND TO BE A LOCAL CAR SHOW WINNER! some things may be new, some used reconditioned. some parts from dusters, demons, darts, and the scamp.

i know that plenty of people have built the scamps into monsters, but i am going to see if if possible to do it with a low budget.

SO HERE GOES.......

i will list all parts that i have for it, and what i have already bought from members in the last 3 days, and the car that started it all.

i may go over budget, but will try my darnest to stick with budget

so here are pics of the 500.00 dollar car. it is a 1971 plymouth scamp, with a perfect running and driving /6 auto on the column.

i have a dart 340 with parts comming off of it, a /6 72 dart, and a 72 duster 340 for the interior

so today, i got the final desicion in my head about doing the scamp, as it was cheap and straight. it has a few rust spots, but pretty sound

so i got to pull the vynal roof off of the car today, and take the carpet out to see the floors that i am working with.
the floors are not as nice as i would like, but one of the most solid that i have gotten to work with. the roof is awesomely solid, so i thought.lol the top was not ripped up at all, but..................... uh,oh, it was clean till i got to the back of the roof.lol
the driver side is not too bad, just surface rust, but the passenger side is almost non-exsistant.
tommorow, i will be pulling the drivetrain, tank, k-frame, and dash if i have enough time.i am sure i will. as this is what i do for a living, and enjoy the work

also, i am shooting for this car to be done in 60 days, if my paintman can fit me in on short notice

I have way more than $5,500 in my dart and I haven't even started on paint and body work and my engine is still not finished. LOL. I can't wait to see this.

If you cant do it yourself

a gallon of color alone will cost 300 bucks just for the out side... then a gallon for epoxy, at least a gallon of primer, sanding supplies, mud...

and ok 5 was extreme but he needs alot of patches, cheaper if he has the tools to make them all but still... enough that the 340 block will eat the rest of it...

listen. this is my point. most guys on here shun the other guys that find, buy and strip cars that are too far gone, especially when they are like the 340 h code cars. but not many of ours cars would be on the road if we did not have used parts to buy. and through my wheelin and dealin, i have been able to keep alot of the goodie items from some of them. that is the fun in this hobby to me.

i buy a rustbucket 340 car with the sharktooth grille, bucket seats, console,.... you know the drill. i pay 1500 for the car, and sell the buckets, console and body parts off of it, and get all my money back, and still able to keep the 8.3/4, sharktooth grille. then the next car i do the same to, i may be able to keep the rally dash and other parts.

this will be, in my eyes, a walk in the park. so i think. i may be wrong, and admit it if i am, but i will enjoy the challange.

and what else will keep you guys reading my build???????????:bootysha::bootysha:

of course!! not trying to be a downer... just reasonable... good luck

I have about $3500 in my Dart and all thats left is getting it straight and paint (expensive) I have replaced both floors, fenders, hood, and a quarter. I had to get a motor, discs, rebuild the trans, find a front suspension, buy a rear end, an interior, rims and tires, trim, bumper, grille. Just takes a little longer to find the deals.

340plot it sounds like you have many of the parts you need so I bet you can do it for the money. Good Luck!!

i understand. if i am within 500.00 for the final build, i will be happy. but then the happiness goes away a month after getting done, then time for the next project.lol

sure. paint and bodywork is always outragous, but i will be bending, fabbing, and welding in metal myself, and using old trunklids and mitsubishi eclipse doors, hodds, and roofs for good clean metal.lol

yes, i have that 340 swinger roller, but to me, that car is just another dart. i need a few more parts of it, and instead of crushing it, i will offer it up on here for some redicoulous cheap price for a still savable title, fender tag, build sheet 70 dart 340. that car too will ne a loving home, and i will amlmost give it away to the right person that i think will rebuild it, rather than swap vins.

Thats the way to do it, I bought my dart for $350 from an impound yard. The guy told me there were some doors in it that he thought were from an aspen, I said well if nothing else I can use the metal for patches. Well when I got the car home and opened it up I found out the doors were fiberglass race doors for A-bodies. I had those for about a week and ended up trading them to Ed Miller for $350 worth of machine work on my 383.

All of my cars have been someone elses "too far gone" parts cars. Its usually never too far gone for me to fix it :-D

well, when a car lack the subframes completly, that is too far gone in my eyes.lol. not that i cannot fix it, but when the frame rails are gone, most of the time, the body is just as gone

rust tech guys even make those now...

I applaud your efforts and encourage you to go for it. Anything is possible if you want to do it go ahead and do it!!!! i will be reading your build thread. Post lots of pics please.

Hate to be a bearer of bad news but Chrysler did make vehicles like that which rusted quite rapidly in many cases and only when persons take car of vehicles like we do will things change

I applaud you sir. I, too am trying the dirt cheap build up, and I started with a 72 4 door with very little rust......I think i am about 3k into the thing, and still haven't done much for body work yet. I'll be keeping an eye on this one....I plan a Scamp for the next car. I want to have 2 done for my kids when they hit driving age.
