There's a new 65 Dart in town.......

What diameter is the steering wheel? I have two old Ford trucks, and since both have power steering, the OEM wheel is much too large.

Edit: Never mind! I didn't remember that you were located "on the other side of the sunset"!

Anyway, do you have the center cap for the wheel? I may be able to track it down for you if I could see that...
This is how it looks!

Air outlet done. Next step was to add the instrument panel and hook up everything. At the same time I added the new carpet. At least the rear one.
Another milestone was done when I mounted the engine in the engine stand. Engine will be overhauled and gone through. Brakes were another part. But now I need help. From what Mopar does the power brake unit come from?

Transmission rebuilt today with new filter, new gasket, new oil pan, new seal and new backup light switch. I even found a transmission cover for a 904. Tomorrow it will be in the car!

The rear panels were cleaned from paint, glue and grease. In place the look great. Note that this car will have 66 Dart GT panels. The factory black 65 Dart GT panels are beyond repairable.

The front buckets and the rear seat it brand new. So sad it has been in the car at a shop with lots of dust. Tomorrow I will start cleaning the rear seat and smoothen it out.

I found a mint package tray but in red. I will vinyl paint it black.

A good cleaning and a new coat of Armor All to soften up the vinyl made the seats great again. The package tray turned out just fine.
Next the carpet hold down mouldings.......

Engine work was on the list today. Off with the oil pan, waterpump, timing cover, and valve covers.
Two broken bolts to fix. Cleaning the parts and adding new timing gear. Add the timing cover and water pump with new gaskets.
Found the stamped motor number in front of left head.
PM318R 31991298 meaning?
Oil pump mounted with two bolts. One was holding the oil pump with two threads!! Not good, a new bolt and new oil pump is in place now..

Two bolts were broken. The one for the oil pan is fixed. But for the left valve cover I need to get the right tap. After that the right valve cover will be painted.

The rest is bolted together and with a new coat of paint it looks like 273 from 65! But it's a 318 from 1970 with a 1972 340 intake!:lol:

Today I took out the steering column from the car. I was pretty sure the steering wheel was from a Dodge truck. Man I was wrong. It from a Fjord!!! So need to change. Does anyone what it fits?

For the fake ports I have found the correct rubber nut. But where to find these phillips screw in 1 1/4" lenght with 10-24 threads?

Primered the instrument panel and then a coat of black.

Ace hardware in stainless steel

Finally the kick panel, carpet hold downs mldg, passenger seat and consol in place.
The door panels were laying in the car under the paint job. Why cover them? Better a 3 hour cleaning!

The last piece before going to Spring Fling in Los Angeles. The hardtop roof mouldings and the steeing wheel turned out great. Next is to find the signal switch. But that can wait.......!

Finally the 318 is mounted in the engine compartment. It's always a hassle dropping an engine from above. But no scraches were made.

Looking good, I wish I could progess on my build as fast as you're going but I'm still collecting parts for mine.

Update! All stuff around engine is completed. All glass in place and adjusted. Some exhaust work and electricall stuff and we are good to go.

Your Dart is looking good.
Can you tell me if the front clips are the same for '63, '64 & '65 Darts?
Thanks, Richard

Finally done! Swapped the 340 spreadbore intake from 1972 for a 1967 273 4 barrel intake with a 67 Carter AFB. With a highlift cam it sounds great.

Hi Richard!

Yes and no! Each front clip is different from each year. BUT they will fit on the body and line up with the front doors. But if so you need to change the front valance(if any) and you need to change the brackets where the hoods locks up. On top of that ýou need to change the hood, the grille and the front bumper!
