Is 1/4” clearance too close for daily? Just curious how much some of you have that are “close”.

I do too. I have some 1/8” proper wheel spacers and I have enough lug thread. If it does that might get it. It’s been a while since I’ve run one fairly close.

Mine are probably a 1/2 inch and still rub a little at times when the chassis articulates.

What size tires are on the car now?

Well that’s kind of a vague question at this point. I have a 68 B body rear with 5.75” of backspace with a 255x60x15 now. My 70 Dart has 235’s on with 3/8” clearance and never has rubbed. But this is 1/4”. I have some nice 3/16” steel spacers I could run. I have the lug threads and register left on the wheel to still feel good about it.

Mopar just give up lol, its not worth the aggrivation, trust me i know lol, sometimes rumble can be a little short or at least seem that way because some times the way things are worded or the way we perceive them but he does truely have the best intentions and tries to answer anyones questions the best he can with what information is provided, honestly i couldnt make heads or tails of what size you were running. You were talking about what size was on your b body then what width tire you were running on your dart and it was really vauge on what vehicle and what size you were concerned with. Thats about the only advice i can give you, as others mentioned 1/2” is ideal just to make sure you have the clearance, the sidewalls on tires are fairly thick so some light rubbing wont affect anything other than maybe any possible warranty new tires have

Thank you & My apologies

I have a little less than 3/8” from the tires to the springs on my Duster. But that said, I also run 18” rims so I don’t have nearly as much sidewall.

I would say 3/8” is the minimum you’ll get away with, and with 15’s you probably want to be closer to a 1/2” if possible. You need the space for the sidewall flex and deformation, the more sidewall you’ve got the more space you’ll need.

I’m going to throw these 3/16” steel wilwood spacers on there and make sure I have some wheel on the register and I’m positive I’ll have enough lug. I ordered lugs that are 1/4” or so longer than stock. I’m not even going to discuss it any further about name calling. 255/60/15 is as straight forward as I could answer I guess. I could durometer the tires and go further I guess. It’s a street tire, not a flexible drag tire. That’s water under the bridge. Not much offends me anymore, just annoyed me. This is a hobby and it’s supposed to be fun.

Street tire or drag tire, sidewall flex is all relative. My 295/35/18’s are street tires, and they will make those 255/60/15 street tire sidewalls look downright floppy.

With your 3/16” spacers you should be fine, you should have a little more than 3/8” clearance and that should be good enough. Just remember that tire pressure and loading will change your clearance, so keep your tires aired up and pay attention if you throw a bunch of stuff in the trunk.

But yet you bring it up.
Thicker skin bro!
Not to mention clear answers.
Just trying to help.
Read Thoroughly, think, reflect, think, answer.
I’m not here to piss you off!

I’ll have around 5/8” after spacing. Thanks.

Uh, not unless you’re doing something other than what you said. 1/4” clearance + 3/16” spacer = 7/16”

Unless you’re planning on stacking spacers or something, but there’s no need to do that anyway.

On a point of register to center wheel.
Im running some oddball wheels on my 80 power wagon. 1/4”of gap to wheel centre.
14 years so far.
Up to three years ago it had a 4” lift, winch and every winter it carries a Heavy prehistoric snow plow /pump and a 4d battery on the front. On 35x12.50-15’s.
I guess it could be critical, but likely not.
I dont agree with spacers, but they are necessary in some cases. Concerned? Get 1/2” spacers, upsize your studs (length and or diameter ) and put it behind you.

Looking at some of the 4x4’s on the road today with the 1” + spacers behind those bigass wheels and the “levelling kits”
You have very little to worry about.

Threads? Bah! All you need is three or four. No, im kidding. Dont do that.
At least the diameter of the stud.
7/16 would be 9 threads and 1/2 would be 14.
A standard wheel nut would be a good test for how many threads you need.

It’s not quite 1/4”. I’m guessing I rounded up a little. I have a bunch of these Wilwood shims. I think some are .030”. I have no idea why I have this wheel shim collection. Probably bought it in some Racing stuff over the year. Circle Track guys get nuts thinking .0300” offset is actually going to make any difference on a dirt track. I’ll be glad to get home and fix this drum deal and drive it to the exhaust shop.
