Is it neccessary to prefill oem torque converter before reinstalling it and the 904 transmission? TQ was emptied and flushed when trans was rebuilt. Engine is /6

yes you must prefill the converter prior to install. otherwise the front pump will not have a prime.

I have installed a couple of converter and never prefilled them...and everything worked fine...

I would recommend that you put some atf in the coverter...and I would have the trans in neutral went i started it up.

Not really necessary, but pour 1 qt in. Lube the shaft so it doesn't burn up the seal. Early ones leaked back overnight anyway (how would I know?). If you put in N it refills much faster. There is a Transgo fix for that. Make sure you fully seat the torque converter. Keep rotating and sliding in and out until you get the 2nd clunk. The bolt-up tabs must be >1/2" back from the front surface or you will ruin the front pump (how would I know?).
