I would like to build either the Duster or the Barracuda for Autocross. The Barracuda is a floor shift auto the Duster a manual. So that is why I have 2 options and a couple of questions.

I like rowing through the gears in the Duster, but would there be an advantage with an Auto trans in Autocross racing?

If manual, would the early low ratio 833 be better than the later 833?
Same with auto would the later low ratio 904 be better than the early higher ratio 904?

What rear gears would be a good choice?

Right now I'm devising a plan to follow, so that I have a direction to go in and don't end up getting the wrong parts or wasting money. Before I start purchasing parts.

Right now the plan is to build a "mini" 340 with a 318 magnum as the foundation. Thinking of a high revving small block would be fun on the street and the track.

I'd go manual. I've seen many autos overheat too easily, especially if you graduate to some type of open track. We can supply many unique suspension parts as well as my bolt in Borgeson steering box kit.
