Hello A bodies only. I am new to this club and internet posting.
I am A High school shop teacher and we are tring to restore a 69 barracuda . We have a 318 engine from a truck that will not fit unless we change the oil pan to fit the cross member. We have a oil pan from a car
however the main bearing cap and oil pump appear to be to big. Is this solvable by repacing it with a different bearing cap or pump ??????( I know the oil pick up tube has to be replaced) . Or should I buy a aftermarket oilpan????if available to solve this problem .

sounds like you might have a 360 instead of a 318, 360 has smaller main caps and a 318 and 340 are the same check the side of the motor it should say on the side if its a 318 or 360 if its a 360 you'll need a a 360 car oil pan and a new pick up

oh your also going to need a flex plate B&M offers one depending on your trans if your running automatic and what was originally in the cuda motor wise /6 or smallblock

I checked the side of the block and the serial numbers and it is stamped and cast as a 318 . It came with a 727 transmission so the flex plate shouldn't be a problem. I heard that there is such a thing as a 318 magnum ??? with larger main bearing seals to fit it you need a car 360 pan ???but this may be inaccurate ??

Get all of the numbers off the side of the block and post them. Someone here will be able to tell you exactly what it is.

I think we misunderstood. Are you saying the "new" engine is "too big?"

The oil pan is "too small?" IF so, you indeed have OTHER than a 360 "new" engine, likely a 318, and you DO have a 360 pan

318 pan front and rear "half moon" is about the same size

360 rear is much smaller

The new engine is a truck engine (I was informed by the seller) and the main bearing at the back is larger than a car pan(the car pan was given to me and came out of a 70's fury) . The serial numbers on the used (new) truck engine is 0M318 08132996 . Its block casting numbers are 4104230-3185. I do still have the truck pan the engine came with and I am considering modifing the two pans to make into one that fits the 69 cuda K member if absolutely nescessary . One other factor I may have to deal with is the car has a power steering box .Thanks to all who replied any help is greatly appreciated

may sound silly, but another member had his pan off 180*- have you tried fitting it the other way?

The car was orginally a formula s 340 car but had been parted out . Person who sold it to me also sold me ,the truck engine and transmission and a 69 barracuda that had a (out of a mid seventy dart) K member , 10 bolt rear end with large bolt pattern wheels disks on the front. (I also own a stock FS 340 fastback so I have some experience with these mopars however I am in some uncharted waters now ) I am posting pics now . the next set of pic will show more of the pans etc..

Here are more pics. Its the orange one that is a F.S. shell and originally had 340 that we need to fit the 318 truck engine into. The black/green one may have had a 318 in it orginally which I am using as a donor car. The K member appears to be similar to the one in other FS340 except for the power steering box aspect . This is getting complicated.
