TRW forged pistons (340)

-
I am putting a engine together now with pistons like that, came out of 2 blown up engines years ago, I saved the best 8 pistons. 2 different part numbers, 960 grams each.

Heavy but tough. I have them in my 340 been to 7000 rpm many, many times. Handle a 150 shot no problem. Now I would go to a lighter piston on any mopar engine if I could.

I'm running the L2316 in .040" in my '69 340.

I think the piston to cylinder wall clearance is way tighter with those pistons than any modern forged pistons.

..lots of guys trash talk these heavy old school forged pistons (L2316-30)
..How much difference will lighter, newer style forged pistons or hypereutectics make?
Worked 40 years ago and will now !
I have a friend / member (Professional machinist) on site building me a 40 over ( 73 ) 360 with crank spacers and going to use these jewels in it along with a 68
340 crank ''' .
Use yours and enjoy them

Not sure on the part number but I ran 11.82 with domed TRW pistons in my .030 over 340 back in the 1970’s. With junk parts compared to today. Would I run then now???? Hell no, not with the stuff available.

I'll just add, YES, they will work. Just keep your RPM in check. And for math nerds, a 600 gram piston, will exert 12,500 lbs of load on the connecting rod, at the overlap period, at 6000 RPM.
