Hi folks,

UPDATE: I think I figured out how the ammeter/ign sw wiring goes. Still have a couple randoms i need to verify.

New member here. I cannot find for my life a wiring diagram for my 1963 dart GT. I found one post on here with the rght diagram but it is fuzzy and unreadable.

The challenge is the ammeter and ignition switch wires. The fuse box red/white, the ign sw red, the ammeter black and the headlight switch black are all wired to a block together, fyi. I found a partial diagram somewhere that confirmed this. Next challenge is pulling the pushbutton controller....the drive button doesent seem to be engaging the "slider"

If you don't have one already, I recommend picking up a copy of the Mopar Service Manual for your year as well. The one I picked up for my 65 has had so much use over the years, and helps a lot.

I also use it to log replacement part numbers inside the front cover, as I find them so the next time around I can find them easier than scouring forums if the mopar part number has no cross reference.

On my 65 wiring duagram is a “welded” splice several inches from the ammeter. Besides to the ammeter, one wire goes through the bulkhead connectotto the alternator, another ti the ignition switch and the last to the fuse box. I doubt yours is any different

Copying my reply to this post:

Hi all. Just picked up a GT. Pushbutton. Red/red. Got to find a good picture of the wiring diagram

That wiring diagram is here. Beyond that, as soon as you can, get the three books listed in this thread.

I cannot tell where the long orange wire from the pushbuttom control box is supossed to go.

That powers the light bulb that lights up the pushbuttons at night with the parking/headlights switched on. It ties into the same feed as the dashboard lights.

Beyond that: Tune-up parts and technique recommendations are in this post. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. And you'll want to read through this thread about function/safety upgrades.

The MyMopar aftermarket diagrams may NOT be perfectly accurate, but better than nothing. If you look at the "A" diagram, down the page the two huge wires, RED and BLACK. You see the BLACK enter the right side of the page, go to the left, to the ammeter. In the middle of that wire, represents the welded splice. Of that branches RED TR (TRacer), and RED which feeds direct to the ignition switch. NONE OF THIS IS FUSED except by the fuse link and that is a POOR fuse, AKA you can burn up wiring depending on it.

DISconnect the battery ground for safety, and if you need power to troubleshoot, put a big heavy lamp such as an old headlight or stop/ tail lamp in series with the battery ground. That way if you ground something, all that will happen is that your series bulb will light

You can USE the incorrect free service manual from MyMopar for some things (they only have 65 is closest) BUT THE WIRING MAY BE DIFFERENT. There were one or two years where the BULKHEAD CONNECTOR is different

Basics of an ammeter circuit:

The BATTERY side of the ammeter is the RED. You normally do NOT take loads off that side, or the ammeter will not read correctly

The alternator output, and all loads possible, including headlights, ignition switch, fuse panel, etc, are all on the BLACK side of the ammeter.
