For an OS on my 'puter I run Linux (Ubuntu based) "Mint" with "Mate" desktop, and usually Firefox.

Often later at night I fiddle around watching various videos, YouTube and some others on various things from mechanics, electrics, war and aircraft / ship history, hot rods, lots of things. ............And shut the thing down and off to bed

Sometimes next morning I fire it up "normally" and usually load one page with several tabs to have them handy. Here, another "BS" forum, facebook marketplace, Ebay, and Craigslist.

AND SOMETIMES the thing generates abnormally high activity, seemingly with Firefox as the cause. In software called "system monitor" I can see, generally, that it is usually processes involved with Firefox, but am unable to pin them down

THE THING IS, I have JUST booted the thing up in the morning a minute earlier, yet, IF I DO A SHUTDOWN and REBOOT, generally that unwanted/ unknown activity GOES AWAY

!!WEIRD!!

System activity after a reboot. Most the activity is the "system monitor" software that is generating this display!!

Unknown/Unwanted Programs running in the background.

Want to have the latest version of Firefox on, like 99.01 for Linux.

As you probably know you have to install it through your Update Manager (in the Administration files). Then go in and reset the securities, do not track, Strict cookies settings.

Uncheck all other non-essentials when setting it up. > Edit > Settings.

Privacy & Security is where you want to go in and clear data and clear history from time to time, or when things slow down or act funny.

Refresh the Updater, clear selections, then Select Firefox only and install. Then reboot your computer.

Can also Give Firefox a tune up if all else fails. Need to go in and set the security settings again after that too.

Is it the update utility for firefox?

Good News:

Looks like Firefox has improved the 99.01 update version so that you now do not have to resetup everything after the update, and or the Give Firefox a Tune Up too.

Just install the update and done, back to where you were again.

Although it is a good idea to go through and check the security settings to see where they are set at.

Linux unlike Windows does not have an Update utility, you have to go in manually, select the Firefox file from the Update Manager and then install it.

That's the nice part about Linux is you can 100% control what gets installed on your system, and you have to have administrative password to do the update.

Unlike Windows that installs updates whenever they want onto your system. Not very secure. Big Brother always has eyes on your Windows systems.

I ordered this phone (with a keyboard) on Jan 5th, hopefully it will be shipping in May. It's a dual boot Linux/Android device. I will only be using the android boot function when I have no choice. There are other Linux phones out there as well. The PinePhone as well as the Librem5

The keyboard is what sold me.

Looks like a great setup. Best Privacy Operating System. Like that a lot, the phones nowadays track your every move.

I ditched Firefox and went to the Brave Browser....

Good luck
Thanks for the reminder. I've never seriously used "Brave" but meant to, and forgot all about it last time I revamped my laptop. Just got done installing it, I will take a look

Yes, at least it does "some" updates. There seems to be a more complicated issue "I ain't a expert" LOL if you try and update just Firefox separately---when running in Linux

Thanks I have no smart phone. This is a laptop. The thing that bothers me about Android is that Google is involved. I don't know to what depth but I'd feel a lot better about it "if not." LOL. And of course Chrome is pretty much "Android on Google"

The stupidity with "the app store" is just one example.
