#1 Original points with parts from Halifaxhops, #2 Pertronix conversion, #3 Mopar Electronic, in that order.

If you want to go ' half way'.....

You can buy HEI 4 pin module for less than $20. The wire from the points triggers the 'w' terminal on the module. You will find hook up drawings on the web. The benefit is the points last longer because they are no longer switching the heavy coil current, the module is.

if you don't want to keep it points, i'd recommend going factory chrysler electronic.

this is the kit i like. it's complete, good quality components and the distributor already has a reasonable curve in it. oh, and it comes with instructions.

Have to disagree, Fake Chinese ECU, Proform Dist usually a really fast curve for the strip, You need what curve the motor wants. Watch out for the words "licensed or replaces" Mopar sells it out, not made by them since the early 2000's Or I should say made by Prestolite for Mopar usually. Stay points you will get 10K miles out of them for under 100. And have the proper curve. Tool wise a Tach/swell meter and a timing light are a must. So is a factory service manual. My Mopar has them to download.

I agree with the toolman, newbomb, hoppy, and the rusty rat cat man’

I had a 66 S car on points and also tried pertronix in the oem distributor and Fuentes notice any difference

The Hi Rev 7500 like Rick E sells on ebay has been tested by our member @Newbomb Turk and found to be a good unit. Everywhere that unit is sold it's advertised as "Made in USA".

Here is what it says about the box on all of his ebay ads.

"A hi-po 7500-RPM certified ECU, made in USA by an original Mopar / Chrysler vendor, but with latest super-reliable all-silicon SMD technology. Comparable to the MP "chrome box", better than "orange box", yet it looks very similar to the OEM stock unit, for that "stealth" appearance!"

Is it sales and marketing BS? I don't know, but I've had mine in Vixen now at least two years and it's never blipped. I also sent an extra one I had to @Newbomb Turk and he tested it. He likes it and says it's a good unit. Maybe he will chime in and give specifics. Maybe "all" of those fake looking transistors aren't bad?

i think you may be thinking of a different kit than the one i linked to? E-burgs kits don't have proform distributors and the curve is acceptable for street motors, the ECU is listed as made in USA.

You need what curve the motor wants.
no disagreement there!

First off, what's the reason for wanting an upgrade? I can think of a lot of possible answers, and they all have different recommendations. And one constant: A good distributor advance curve is a big key to performance, and many people overlook it.
  1. "I just don't want to deal with adjusting points." - Pertronix Ignitor is the easy option here.
  2. "The motor is stock, but I still think there may be some horsepower to gain." - Tuning the advance curve is the real secret to making power in this case.
  3. "My race motor is misfiring from 7,000 RPM up to its 8,500 RPM redline." - Some will disagree with me here, but my personal preference for ultra high RPM is a capacitive discharge system like an MSD.
  4. "I need to light off 15 psi of boost" or "I need to light off a 200 hp shot of nitrous" - These are also going to call for something more exotic, but exactly what will depend on the details of your build and what other electronics are on there.
  5. "I've got a modified motor, but not that crazy" - Post the details of what you've got.

Yes I am, he does make good stuff. Thinking the MP kits. New ones are junk.

I went with a Firecore Distributor a few years back. Excellent but costly

With the Rick's system

Are you still faced with the same problems to recurve it as a stock dist? I thought I read that, does not appear to have a default performance curve?
