Welcome to the site. More info will help us help you nail it down. What condition, when did it run last? Cranking compression if available? What cam? Is the engine stock? So far we know nothing but casting numbers. That appears to be a late 340 manifold on the passenger's side, but it IS a 318 manifold on the driver's side.

wow thanks for the fast response guys. I bought it a few years ago and the seller claimed low miles. It has been sitting in a shop for a few years with the oil breather holes open on the valve covers and such so im sure it needs a good going through. thats really all i know. i saw x heads and a complete motor thats all i have to go off of :/
im just looking for a ballpark number so i can get it sold asap!

What kind of offers are you getting?

Yes. It's a 340 core and nothing more than that. Not that that's a bad thing. But since you are not familiar with what's there, it's sat in the shop a long time uncovered, etc., that's all you know. I agree. That 1K looks good.

By the numbers you provided, the build date should be Sept 13, 1971.

If it's still a stock short block, it should be a forged assembly. The balancer in the pics looks to confirm that also.

I believe it was a early 72' model engine.

Value? What someone that really wants it will pay....imo.

Looks like a 72 steel crank 340 that may have had a rebuild at some time.

If someone offered 1K for it, take it.

HM 340R36990070 H=1972 M= mound road plant, 340, R= regular fuel (low comp eng.) 3699 is Monday, September 13, 1971, 70th eng assembled that day. Rick stated it may be a forged crank but maybe an internally balanced cast also. likely it was a cast crank from the factory.

If you look at the vin picture there is a light 2 before the B
2 =1972 model year, B Hamtramck, 186946 last 6 of cars VIN.

as Okla stated the brass plate is from a builder. So it could be an anything engine at this point steel crank, high compression etc, etc..

Just thought I'd update you guys, the motor sold for $1200. I had a couple offers RIGHT around that and another one for $1300 right after I sold it. Amazing what an old mopar small block brings in! Literally from the moment I put it on craigslist, the phone started ringing, and it didnt stop till i sold it one week later.
Thanks again for your guys' help!

Congrats. That sounds like very good money for a motor you knew nothing about.
