hi all this is my first post here so take it easy on me im from downunder well i have a problem that you maybe able to help me with i have accidently bought a 318 poly in oz all 318 are la blocks so i thought well this motor came out of a 65 dodge phonix i only discovered this when i went to put my new headers on the motor its a poly which from what i have read is a wider block will this fit into a 66 valiant vc a body or is it to wide cheers mango:prayer:

It cant be no bigger then a BB and we shoe horn them in a early As But what to run for headders thats some thing i just dont know . If i was you I would forget that poly motor and get an LA motor . welcome to the site .

Yes, welcome to the forum, Mango......you might wanna consider unloading it or trading it for an LA motor. Hi-perf parts and custom headers for that poly 318, would be rare as hen's teeth and pricey as all hell, not to mention all the associated headaches.

Unless you love a challenge! Cheers!

The basic block has virtually the same demensions as the LA block. The poly heads make it as wide or wider than a 440. You can make anything fit, but as someone else suggested, you'd be brtter offvwith a LA motor

ok peeps thanks for all the help its a hard decision as the motor has had a full pro rebuild with over 8000$ spent on it .not by me but scored it a the wreckers . but I know the fellow that payed for the build so it now is going to be down to a compression test if its in the 140 to 150 mark its going in if its only 120 its going on ebay in oz so I will let you all know what happens as in oz it cost a lot more for rego&insurance for a v8 like 1050$ as opposed to a 265cyl 680$ and the 265 kicks arse over pretty much everything cheers mango

G'day Mango - for mine you should take the advice already offered and just get an LA block - perhaps a 318 from a late Val or Charger - plenty around.

Don is correct about the poly block, and a lot of parts interchange, but the LA would be easier and better in the long run ,methinks mate.

Good luck with your VC project.

Also, most of these blokes don't know our cars so you really need to explain it to them when you say "VC", as most of them won't be able to picture what car you're talking about - (just some advice).

Welcome to this site it has some great stuff on it and some nice blokes.

thanks gary I have put it on mopar market in the swap section just to see if I can get a bite as a swap for a LA motor

I see you've seen the posts concerning width of the poly over at the poly forum. Looking at the 273 in my 65 Barracuda and the photo that was posted, it just might fit. I'd guess biggest issue would be exhaust manifolds or extractors. GLWS on MoparMarket.
