David Vizard / Uncle Tony...Small block Infos ?

-
Does anyone remember when Uncle Tony ran that Coronet around with open headers and all his fans were saying "oh it sounds so good..." we all ran 318s around with open headers LOL!

Won't all small blocks respond the same with similar modifications?
These guys all have something to offer on you tube with the TV guys trying a little harder to sell you their
sponsors products so they might get results you and I can't..just watch it and watch out!
Now if we could just get a 3.58 stroke crank into a 318 painlessly it might be a pretty good platform.
Hmm..I think one of the domestics did something similar in 1997 ?
Why would you want a 3:58 stroke in a 318? Then all you would have is a 360 with a small bore, smaller main caps, and more money to achieve. I cant see the logic in it.

Just skip ahead to the trip to Lowe's where UT buy fuel line that's for toilet tanks supply lines. Tells ya what he's about
Oh man! I was already thinking UT was craked. When I saw the hardware store video, I was like..... that's it! I'm OUT! Clicked unsubscribe and will never click any more of his content again.

I feel like we hijacked this kid's thread, but it is what it is. BTW, there's an entire thread dedicated to UTG. You might wanna search that one for some good laughs.

The people who defend Tony its 1 of 2 things 1. "hes entertainment" 2. he has (X amount) of subs...we have become real shallow in this country on an intellectual level LOL!

I've said this many times regarding 318s "If there was some easy affordable recipe to make them go fast we would have known in the 80s...the recipe is and was to get a 340 or 360..."
serious question: when was the last time you bought a 340 or 360?

yeah 340's pop up here from time to time but they're not growing on the trees next to the 8.75 bushes like they were back in the 80's broham, and they have the price tag to match.

and 360's ain't gettin' no cheaper. everybody that has one thinks it's gold now.

I payed 650$ for a 5.9 Magnum long block the seller said came out of a 90 something thousand mile van. This was two weeks ago in Texas. I’d been watching marketplace for a month.
Yesterday I was able to buy a 1971 340 short block for 1250$
I also bought a set of cheaply refreshed 1973 1587 340/360 heads for 300$
The 1970 Pontiac 455 short block I’m used for my 1975 TA build cost me 1500$

This is an expensive hobby.

My beater Duster that I bought those two Mopar engines for has a 318 in it.
I’ll admit the thought of building a hot 318 just because people hate that engine so much actually appeals to me.

Nobody hates it its just a waste of time and money and a hot 318 is a broad term what youll end up with is an engine that sounds good and does a burnout but falls on its face at about 5000 rpm going down the track UNLESS you spend alot of money on mods machine work and heads etc. which is foolish when you can just start with something else like a 360 this is what some of us have been saying all along ...many have tried your idea and then came to their senses. The Engineers at Chrysler tried it they came up with the 340 etc.

Wait a minute, 5000 rpm? A stock auto 340 will nose over at 5200 rpm and with 3.23 gears will cross the quarter at 4400 rpm at 100mph. No need for anything above that on the street. A 318 can be a good performer it just doesn't get any love because of the 340 's and 360's.

318, need to drive with both hands.

340 /360 are generally the small blocks to have it doesn't help getting all upset about it. It doesn't change anything it isnt like some big 318 secret has been revealed by Uncle Tony LOL! they aren't special and dumping money into one to prove it is is sort of pointless. I'd rebuild it stock and run it that's the value in a 318 it's a good all around utility engine.

I know this is a Mopar forum but it seems other smallish small blocks get more love. Back in my working life I drove a couple of Broncos. One a 302 with lots of pep and good gas mileage. Next one stepped up to a 351. Big disappointment. Sluggish acceleration from a stop and a gas hog. I’ve got a “modern” 302 in my 2013 F150. That’s as modern as I want to go. No turbo 4 banger for me.

I built a 360 for the street/strip, but I’ve got a 318 that I’ve got my eyes out for something to put it in as a daily driver, rainy day car.

yes, because the end goal of every build it to take it down the track and maximize your 1/8th or 1/4 mile performance.

how foolish of us all to have forgotten.

Or just to have a fun car that is consistant. It doesn't have to be maximum performance or fast to be fun or a winner.

A lot of guys are obsessed with big cams and HP and it's important for a strip car! A smaller cam
with higher torque usually work good on the street.

i have a friend who made a whole pile of money bracket racing his rambler american. his 4dr 2bbl rambler american.

he'd drive to the track, put on a set of MT's out back and click off 14.5's all night and just put dude after dude on the trailer because he was dead nuts consistent.

The Dartswinger70's of the world just hate that. :poke: :poke:

Yup a stock 318 cam is under .400 lift its designed for it...drop in a bigger cam it usually doesn't do much on a stock LA 318 mayb e drink gas. I tossed a stock 318 cam once and wished I hadn't actually. I agree the 318 is a good engine in stock form I dont agree with dumping alot of $$$ into it trying to prover it to be something its not.

i have built a few 340 daily drivers but never ever had any interest in racing. Some performed much better than others. The new owner of the last one i sold did race it. He just put it in drive and after two runs figured out how to launch it without tire spin. Worked pretty good for what it was.
What is your current build specs and what 1/4 mile times are you getting?

There is nothing wrong with the guy, he is just not as comfortable on camera as some other people are.
Some people are naturally awkward. I met Steve at Carlisle in July...

Talking face to face, he spoke as anyone else does.
Maybe on camera he has a bit of hesitation now and then....have YOU ever tried to act normal while cameras are running on you? Have you any experience at public speaking? It can be hard to relax and remember what you planned to say. Sometimes your mind goes blank from anxiety. It is easy to be critical if you've never experienced it.
Yes, they made Steve the Odd Man Out. His Turbo Slant was a good episode. He even said he could not get the head gasket he needed but tge show must go on.
The exhaust episode where they tested small pipes with duels. And a single 3 inch. The 3 inch was great if you had use for it like truck exhaust. The mandrel bent vs crush pipe. And bash a headers to fit was also great

You guys should come to the duct tape drags and get drunk with all of us around the campfire at night. Steve is an absolute riot when he’s has a few.
