We are going to the Mopars at the strip show in vegas next weekend. Anyone have any dos or donts suggestions for me. Not taking my car, just spectating..Anything a must see while I am there? Anyone else going?
Dan

Take pictures for us to enjoy that will be stuck at home is one thing I can recommend
I have never been but I have herd it is a large show and the streets are full.
A friend of mine went 2 years ago in his 58 Ranchero, I will ask him if there is anything you can look forward to or look out for.

I am getting pretty excited..got our plane tickets, hotel( best western near the track ) and the arm bands for the 3 day show. Getting in to town wednesday night so will have the day thursday to do some sight seeing. I want to see Hoover dam.

Dan,

Do be ready for any type of weather. Last year it snowed on Saturday. Two years ago I got fried from the sun.

Since you are going for the entire weekend, you should have time to see everything at least once. Get a program for each day and make note of things that you might want to see such as the Hemi challenge, or the Pony wars.

The race track is very close to Nellis Air Force base and quite often there are A-10s, F-22s, KC-10s, F-18s, F-15s and other types of aircraft flying overhead or nearby on the landing pattern. So bring a camera if you like taking pictures of flying combat aircraft in addition to Mopars flying down the track.

Hey Dan, make sure to take the tour of the dam. The view up the face of the dam from down by the powerhouses is spectacular and gives you a feel of just how big it is. A lot of history out there - personal for me as my dad's oldest brother was killed during the construction of Hoover Dam. He fell off the roof of the Arizona-side powerhouse just before Christmas, 1932. That was long, long before I was born.
Nice little place called "The Coffeecup" in Boulder City to grab either breakfast or lunch. It will be on your left side as you drive through the business area of town on your way to the dam. It was featured on "Diner's, Drive-Ins, & Dives" tv show a couple of years ago.
If you like BBQ, I suggest one of the Memphis Championship Barbecue restaurants in Las Vegas. There are 2 locations, one close to Nellis AFB which is right by the raceway. They make an old-fashioned banana pudding that is just like grandma's.
And speaking of Nellis AFB, enjoy the free airshow (mostly on Friday). You'll see a bunch of F-15s, F-16s, A-10s, and F-22s always seem to be either taking off or landing. They come in directly over the track on their landing break.
Biggest "DO" is BRING A CAMERA!!! You're going to see some of the nicest Mopars in the western US. Great show and great racing. Don't miss the Hemi Shootout.
Also, don't miss the Friday night and Saturday happenings at the Cannery. The "quarter-mile of Mopars" and the concert are great.
Stop by and say "Hi" either Friday or Saturday mornings at MATS - members from my club, Inland Mopars, will be parking the show cars both mornings. My wife and I will be parking the A-bodys.

Lots to see out there. The wife & I were out there a couple weeks ago. A MUST SEE is the new bridge across the canyon at Hoover Dam. AWESOME SIGHT!!!!! the pillars for this bridge are like 290 ft tall. 2 lanes of traffic both ways and a pedestrian walkway overlooking the dam. If you had more time you could see Death Valley & Scotty's Castle about 2-1/2 hrs away. That is beautiful in its own way. A lot of natural & manmade things to see out there. ENJOY your trip!!! Hope you win a little if you play the slots!!!

don't forget about carroll shelby's place which is near track just like 2 minutes from track which i will visit this year

Not sure how young/old you are but,,don't do anything to piss off Metro Police, they shoot first and ask questions if they feel like it. They work hard and are very good at their job.Stay on their good side.Hoover Dam/Lake Mead is a sight to see !! Don't speed in Boulder City on the way to the dam.

We'll be in Vegas after the show. Is there any restaurant that serves good ribs??

See post #6:

We go to the Memphis Championship BBQ on Warm Springs Rd. (just south of McCarran Airport) everytime we go to Las Vegas. We've also been to the location on N. Las Vegas Blvd. when at MATS. Check out there website: www.memphis-bbq.com.

Thanks for all the suggestions....I will for sure try to find the FABO tent while at the track. As far as the Hoover Dam goes, I work for a graphics company and we recently did a big museum display about the Hoover Dam. I feel like I need to see it in person after seeing all the pictures of it.
Cant wait....leaving Cincinnati in 5 days..woo hoo..

hoover damn is amazing. especially when you think about when it was built.

if you get a chance to go to freemont street do it.. its a lot more fun in that area then the strip in my opinion. also hit the California Hotel and Casino and get their $9 prime rib dinner.. oh man is it good and you'll be stuffed when you leave that place.. http://www.thecal.com/whats-new/offers/prime-rib-dinner-special!-

When you say "we are going to mopars at the strip", I assume that means you and the wife ?

I could clue you in on some interesting night life, but probably not what you want if the wife is along...lol

Anyway, some family friendly stuff would be to check out the fountains at Belligio, simply amazing, I go see them on every visit.

Mandalay Bay has a really amazing aquarium.

New York New York, has a pizza place called Sirrico's, they have the best new york style pizza in vegas. It's fantastic !

Some things to consider from a long time attendee:
1. The climate is very dry so be sure to drink lots of water not just beer and cocktails!
2. Chap stick or other lip balm.
3. Large brim hat, if it's hot you'll fry without one.
4. Warm and cold wx clothing. Last year we were walking around in shorts and t shirts then it snowed!
Others have posted excellent things to do/see. Don't miss the car show and concert at the Cannery.

X2 and I would add....If you'd like to make points with the wife, take her to a good show that she's like to see and to one or more of the indoor shopping areas such as the the one at the Venitian, Planet Hollywood, or Ceasar's forum. Sigfreid and Roy's secret garden at the Mirage is pretty cool too. Oh, I almost forgot, Red Rock Canyon is nice too. You can rent little "Fun cars" and caravan over with a guide or just drive there yourself. Don't worry, there are enough things to do that you'll need to come back!

my buddy lives in Vegas, he told me MOPARS are already rolling in. he was at the cannery last night. i'm flying in Wed. see ya soon ;)

can check out the pawn shop.. its kinda a not so great neighborhood at night though..lol

If you go there (and stand in line to get in) park in the lot south of the store. If you park in the lot north of the store, you'll get a ticket! Ask me how I know.......stupid tiny little sign!
