VENT FREE GAS LOG HEATER

-
I've used variations of this for years and have had no problems.
(Natural gas)
All the heat stays in the house.
It burn clean and puts moisture in the air which I need.
Central dry heat kills me.
My house isn't real "tight" though.
People used unvented heaters back in the day when houses weren't built like today.
I remember them well.
I would stay away from any device that heats "ceramic" via a gas flame.
My mother had unvented logs in her house and it burned my eyes.
I don't know why.
This has a low oxygen sensor and I use 2 Nighthawks for CO protection.
No worries about power failures with these heaters.

Holy cow!
I have one of these things. I loved it at first. Really did a wonderful job of breaking the chill in the house. But last winter I started to notice fumes. I also now have black soot streaks on my ceiling. They follow the trusses (I have a vaulted ceiling) and you can see where the fire breaks are. Tried to clean it, but that only made it worse. I'm going to have to have it repainted.
I can open the flue, but the heat it makes just goes up and out. Keeping the flue closed, the heat is great, but the fumes are awful.

Well where does the "exhaust" go? And there IS some kinda exhaust. A flame doesn't burn without something going into the air.

If it is truly "vent free" (does not sound like it but the OP is not cooperating) then all the combustion products GO INTO THE LIVING SPACE

By the way, additional dangers: ANY chemicals in the air can be a problem. I used to service HVAC/R. ANYTIME we dealt with shops such as ceramics/ hobby, painting, photography chemicals, a laundry, the equipment showed signs of suffering early heat exchanger failure because the combustion air entering the appliance ACTIVATES the chemicals in the air and promotes rust/ corrosion. Chemicals in the air "for humans" become MUCH MORE TOXIC

they are scienced out so well that they add almost nothing to the air. I`ve had one for 20 plus yrs in my garage, no problems w/ headaches like the heater before ! And there are fireplace units the same way.

I have one in the Old place back in Missouri. Home heated with wood burning stove. The wife back there insisted on turning the ventless wall heater ( propane) on bout an hour every AM to take off the chill till the wood stove got hot. WOW! it was a gas hog. But I heated the whole winter with without the help of the propane job with maybe 2 cords of good wood.

Im just going by the guys who installed it. I was told they install these several times a year for people. They should know what they are talking about. So far no smell, no headaches. They lady at the desk needed to know the name brand & model #. She said they will install only certain ones.
