Very good first day out with the new engine

As Peter would say, “friggin sweet!” Seriously though, super impressive, heck of a setup!

What is your shift point set at if you care to share?
Thanks. Very appreciated. Very happy with it.

1-2 the air shifter is set for 7,000
The grid shows by the time it’s all said and done, it shifts at 7,200

2-3 it was set at 7,200 and the grid showed 7,300

I bumped it up to 7,300 2-3 and it should be 7,400 but I haven’t pulled the grid yet for that pass but that’s what I’m assuming it is. 1-2 always needs a little extra lead rpm cause of how fast the RPM increases.

Thanks for all the info you share on your set up! Nice to know that you have to compensate with electronics too:)

I had to set my shift light at 6,600 so the gear change would happen at ~6,900…when my brain and hand worked like they were supposed to anyhow. Was annoying when I’d anticipate it and short shift cuz I was always dialed hard, since I wasn’t great at holding a little/driving stripe to give myself room to miss a little.

Anyway, can’t wait to see where your car ends up after some more passes with the new setup!

I get exactly what you’re talking about. Especially hand shifting. My dad’s car was hand shifted forever and with the faster engine we used to have to do that same thing as well with a shift light for him. I watched the tach but used the shift light if I ever had to steer. And the air shifter is a great setup. Something I never saw myself going to but with how tough the top bulb class is, I need every advantage I can get.

Friday I got my car to the track for test and tune with a gamblers race. Other than the new engine which I described in a previous post, I changed NOTHING to my setup. Same trans, same converter, gears, etc. Even the old shock settings stayed the same.

First pass, car launched, went a little left (I think I was pointed a tad left from the start), car laid down a 1.1883 60', 3.4847 at the 330 and a 5.4586 at 123.93 mph in the 1/8. I stayed in it longer than expected for a first pass and got a 1,000' time of 7.1818 at 140.58 MPH. Lifted in between the 1,000 and 1320 and turned on an 8.67 at 144 MPH. Man that was a shock to see that.

Entered the gamblers race. First round dialed a 5.44. Before the first round, we turned the vacuum pump up a little bit to see what it would do. I was .011 on the tree, another 1.1860 60', 3.4615 at the 330, hit the brakes in between the MPH and ET cones. Took .008 stripe to be under by .0134. Ran a 5.4266 at 123.66MPH. My opponent was .001 dead 5. So a package of 6 total. Warm welcome back to the top bulb class lol. I was happy with the way it ran, and happy I could still hit the tree. Didnt really care about the loss. The 5.42 was a personal best by .01 from the previous setup which ran the best of 5.43 in better conditions at a better track. So it looked like the new setup was promising.

I was able to still test and tune after the loss in the gamblers race. I increased the 2-3 shift RPM 100 rpm because the car seems to like more RPM. Third pass, air got a little better, sun went down. Laid down a 1.171 60', 3. 4361 at the 330, and a 5.390 at 125.28 MPH. Personal best. What a fun night. Two of my close friends and teammates raced each other in the semi finals. Friend who footbrakes (one of the baddest footbrakers in the country, Nick Bownan), won against my friend with the delay box, lol. Then Nick went onto the final against a 4.80 dragster. Nick laid down an 11 package to take the win.

All in all, awesome evening. My car really seemed to like the new engine. The bottom end with the little extra stroke seemed to make the car work better (Surprisingly).

The video I will upload is the first round of eliminations and I do not have an outside video of the 5.39 pass. I will upload the gopro videos when I get around to it.

Now that I am back in the seat of my car, I am excited to see what the rest of the season brings.

Nice! I will find and upload a couple of my last passes to compare #...I never looked at the 1000' mark before. It'll be interesting to see any differences. I'm sure you'll find more IF YOU WANT TO.

Oh ya we will find more. Gotta get Tim done and on the track and get my dad’s car out and after the whole team is at the track and things are good. We will be looking for more ET lol

And yes please upload your numbers when you get a chance. I was wondering your 1,000’ incremental as well

Yessir, hoping to end up in top bulb some day myself!!!

interesting to see the rpm difference from using air shift. I put air shift in my car last year but didn't make it out to try it.
