vin tag problem

hello everyone , just bought a 1972 dodge demon .work in progress car. got a title but not the number on dash that was taken out and laying in car. any info on what to do . car was some thing like other was in my youth and now at 55 have abit of time to work on one. bought off ebay said it had clear title . thanks look forward to this forum

Does the title match the body numbers?

If the dash VIN is gone, you have a great case for getting your money back if that was not disclosed. Same if the title does not match the body numbers, get your money back.

So the title does not match the car ? Did you check the numbers on the radiator support or under the weatherstrip of the drivers side trunk. Check to see if the vin plate matches the numbers stamped. Maybe you got a clear title for another car. Headache coming make sure you have excedrin on hand. Keep us posted.

I would not waste time. Contact seller and be FIRM and your request fairly "sharp."

Tell the seller he / she has 48 hours to respond with a clear answer. If he / she claims they have the tag, then get a photo

Contact ebay and open a complaint file, regardless. You can always close it. Do NOT contact the seller through regular email, demand that the seller deal through the ebay message system, and you do the same.

If the title matches the body there are partial VINs. My understanding is they are under the trunk gasket rail, and on the rad support. If the engine / trans is supposed to match, there are partial VINs on them as well.

My understanding is he got the title, the vin tag was off the dash but in the car.
Big Red Flag.
Check the partial vin on the radiator support, on the speaker tray, and under the trunk seal.
You just may have a stolen car, or a car that don't match the title.

Maybe the seller has another similar car, and just threw the wrong tag in the car? Maybe? Hopefully......
Maybe he is as frantically searching for it, as you are to get rid of it! Hopefully.....

contact with him yesterday he may have given me wrong dash ,he asked what color it was. I told him green should be black like the rest of interior . we are trying to work things out . both he and I have been ill with the flu. I will start process with ebay . just to cover my butt . I hope this comes out ok before I have to get ugly.i am checking with local cop friends on how to proceed. stay turned.

"Sounds" good but don't give the seller wiggle room. If he can screw around long enough he will get things out of the time frame of ebay / paypal. Important to "go through" that system.

I guess I'm suspicious.................let's add this up.............

You bought an expensive piece, "the car" and the seller did what?

Spent 10 minutes throwing the parts in the car? "Got" the wrong dash? That just has a "sound" of BS to me.............just the intuitive "first jump"

I thought the seller didnt get you a vin tag? Did the car come with fendertag?
Im with 67dart273 on this...I think seller is tuggin at your undies getting ready to pull them down.

yes but dash is out of car and is wrong number . started process with ebay. tried to call him ,he texted me after a while I told him I started process with ebay now he wont aswer no surprise . talking to attorney general on Tuesday or weds. will see.

Yup. Sounds like a bad deal. However, it's not clear.......did you check the rad support and rear trunk lip and do those match the title? If they do, then the BODY matches the title, and that goes a long way. Hope you get this worked out.

Don't let this diddle out too long. It's good to have a complaint opened with th' bay but if he strings this out long enough, the financing and money may "get lost."

Demand a refund asap. Do whatever you can to get $$ back now. If he has stopped communicating with you the romance is over.

Partial vin will be on package tray inboard of drivers side speaker. At least that's where it is on my 71 Demon.

well got no where with ebay , they said that any car before 73 does not have title so there policy sucks. still waiting for bill of sale and parts . 1st buying on ebay is bull **** 2nd. i don,t under stand how a mopar guy a real mopar guy could do this. will try to register at dmv with title for body worry about it later . or try to sell it explaining situation and start over.

Is it possible you got the "one guy" at ebay who doesn't have a clue?
