Can't find one hard drive "I had a bunch of stuff" backed up on, and am behind, besides. So decided it was about time

I also want to upgrade my Linux (13) to a newer distro (Mint Mate 17) so there's that

So I buzzed up to "bestbuy" and sprung 70 bucks on a 1 TB backup drive. Runs right off USB

Hell it turns out there's 200 GB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of crap RIGHT ON THE DESKTOP

Haven't even looked in the "home" folder yet!!!!!!!!!!

This here? Why this is coming to you on a fresh install on a little IBM (Lenovo) R400 Thinkpad. this is a NICE little machine. Fairly light, still retains the old style Thinkpad keyboard I've always liked. I might pick up another one of these. This one is old enough it came with Shista, but new enough that it boots from about anything, including USB devices including flash drives. Last night I was "on the air" with Linux Mint "on a stick."

........SIGH.......I see we're all the way up to 14 GB transferred, this gonna be long day..........

Throw a steak on the grill grab a few beers and sit back.

LOL, already stopped at Carl's Jr on the way back with the new backup device, a double western bacon somedamnthing and iced tea 'with lots of ice'

All the way up to 143 GB of the desktop stuff, LOL

Well this morning we garbaged canned the whole strategy and went "with something different."

Ended up doing a "recovery" which is a joke because Asus likes to B### F### it's customers. Finally decided there was NOTHING other than windows in the original install worth keeping, except junk that BestBuy and Asus had put in there. No office applications, just garbage.

So........Did a generic re-install of Whenhozed7. This means "I'll have to go back" and update the drivers because Bill was not smart enough to find 'em.

So with that basic fresh deal done, NOW I'm installing 64 bit Linux Mint 17 "Mate" and of course will have to find "all my favorite crap" to add to IT when I'm done.

On the other hand, this thing has been doing pretty much OK the last several years. I guess I can afford a weekend to "spuce it up."

Ended up getting a SECOND 1TB backup drive yesterday, and made TWO copies of the backup stuff 'just in case'
