So i am looking for some ooph on a daily/weekly driver. I am probably going 361, or rebuild and stroke the 318 that is in it. I plan on updating the suspension and brakes. He converted it to a 4 on the floor, and made a sweet custom plywood console so need to straighten that all out. The dash is in really great shape so i am hoping to keep that original. Other than that the entire interior is gone or needs fixed/replaced. However the body and frame are straight. 95 percent of the chrome and accents are there and complete and not bent. Not looking for a dragger, juat a niceold muscle car that drives nice and sounds/is a lil mean. After the basics, kinda' need to know what your plans/intended purpose for the car to make really informed suggestions. Plenty of knowledgeable folks on here to guide you who have "been there, done that."

I feel like this might be the best car advice i have ever received. Like i was just thinking how am i going to get all this gunk off of everything. Thanks.go to the local dollar general store and grab a bunch of the dollar oven cleaner sprays and some bottles of awesome and let them soak. They will make the job much easier
Me too, can't stand fastbacksNotch back 'Cuda. One of my all time favorites !![]()
Not much for spare parts for a Poly. Expensive too. I'd stick with a LA small block. You can do allot with the 318 BUT if it is stuck and corroded another block may be best.a poly 318 from a 66 charger.
Hells yeah, i like itPolys are harder to get parts for, more money. I'd get the one that already in the car fired up before making any other engine decisions... A couple of jumper wires after verifying it spins and has oil pressure and presto!
6k? i wish they were that cheap... and it all depends on what you want the car to be.. a driver... build a stock 318 and enjoy..So barring like major failure, this other engine seems to be a poly 318 from a 66 charger. Which would you reccommend to build? My brother was not aure if it was the 361 or the 318. Now i have two 318's.
So there is no shortage of blocks around me. Do y'all think stroke one os these badboys out? Or just get a 340 or 360 and go that route? Money and effort are not really an issue but i am not dropping like 6k on crate engine.
100% chance that i would try to salvage/stain that and use it...cool part of the car's history.Dig that plywood console.
That isn't a Poly, that is an LA engine.
I am thinking so i have money for other nice things, i am going to just pull the one in it out, go through it, and update a bit and put her back. Going to be spending a small fortune just in glass and seals.6k? i wish they were that cheap... and it all depends on what you want the car to be.. a driver... build a stock 318 and enjoy..
Ah my brother just got out of job corp in carpentry and built that for it, i was contemplating just ripping it out, but you are right i think i might make a garage piece out of it.100% chance that i would try to salvage/stain that and use it...cool part of the car's history.
If that 318 will turn over, pretty good chance you can get it to run. How well is up in the air.
I was referring to the 66 charger engine in the bed of my truck which the block and intake numbers both came to a 66 2 barrel 318.That isn't a Poly, that is an LA engine.
273, 318, 340, 360. Look on the block above the starter, below the cylinder head.
There will be a casting number.
Here is one from a 340 for reference.
