I was bored in the house so I went to the garage to see whats going on. So I started getting some rockers ready to face and cut for lock nut style adjusters from mancini.

My son order the lifter bushing tooling today. Over $5000 for the reamers and the bars for all mopar engines Standard and tall bores. He had the fixture .

We are going to use Offset large diameter rollers for GM in our motor. He is also building big mega block strokers for us.

There are some large cube standard block engines in the shop some with billet caps. He is installing a billet girdle on our standard 440 block. Second pan came today from KEVKO, Same as the first one bent and twisted. exactly the same way and no damage to the box. NOT HAPPY!

We want to use a belt drive on the small block so we are thinking of selling the custom covers we have

A couple pictures I took today

That lifter bore tooling will keep him busier than he already is. I needed to have the lifter bores bushed in the 273 I'm building for the 65 Barracuda and had to carry it to a race shop up in Virginia to have it done. The guy had a CNC machine that did it. Pretty cool to watch one of those things work if you've never seen one!

What is a large diameter GM roller lifter???

What is a large diameter GM roller lifter???

Off set GM 937 diameter with a 850 wheel. But last night I talked to my son and he found they only oil through the pushrod. So he found out from Jesel ford would be the lifter that oils through the head. But they would have to make a set with a mopar style dog bone with 1.75 center Ford windsor is 1.73. He is Talking with Jesel about what lifter to buy over the counter so they are not special order and just use a mopar length Dog bone

I talked to him this morning and we have to tear are motor down and measure the lifter bore height. It is different on the R3 block. ours has a tall lifter bore. We want to run an off set lifter with a large bushed 850 roller wheel to square up the pushrods and make the valve train durable at extreme RPMs. Light weight sodium filled larger valves and conical springs with smaller retainers are also being used .

My son builds a lot of race motors . The machine work is all done in house so the cost for our motor will be less. Its tooling and parts that are expensive. The lifter tru-ing tooling can be used on other motors. but the initial purchase is a killer. We have the fixture side plates and some bars and reamers. The Bar, bore spacing plates, and reamers for mopars were over $5k. Lifters are about $3k

Here is the tooling for the job below

What's he doing with the torch?
That is a ford big block came out of the acid hot tank. Went into the hot wash then it goes into this rinse booth. Then it has to be dried using this torch or it will instantly start to rust. After this process they can sit out and stay bare metal until all machine work is done Then they get taped off and primered.
All parts gets cleaned or they don't go into his machines

The one day I need to start a coal fire in the stove and he wasn't around. This thing worked great

Thanks for the explanation! Machine work is fascinating.

That torch has many uses. Works great for hornets in the ground and in cars. Great for charcoal grilles. You can start a camp fire in the rain. Clearing poison. Anything you want to heat up. When he is not around of course. LOL

He has several which one? He has Bridgeports , Sharp, Mill port, T&S, they are bed mills and are the same as a manual Rottler which they don't make any more. And he has another I don't know the name of. All were bought new accept the series I and series II bridgeports.

One of them came from the World trade center . Building 7 or 11 machine shop is where machine shop equipment was salvaged from. It looked like it was covered with rust but it was a coating of a substance from the collapse. Had a odd smell like a chemical. This one is my favorite no electronics.

We have several Series I's for parts. So if I break it I can fix it. I gave one to Ryan Johnson at Shady Dell. I Wish I never did. He Fucked me over big time , He is a liar and a ripped me off.

Wow. That's a collection. The one I was curious about was the one in the 5th picture of your original post that has the small block mounted on it. I was specifically interested in how large the table was and what the x travel was.

Table is 60" X 16" travel axis X is 40", Y is 14", Z is 30" We have two almost Identical . One is a T&S the other is a mill port. Same as a Rottler but they come 30 taper instead or 40 taper. But a spindle from a bridgeport fit right in to make them 40 taper.

There were 5 in Buffalo NY. for sale new on the pallet and they were $35k each. We bought one. Then while reaching out to another machine shop we accidently dial the sellers number where we bought the mill and after talking he mentioned he had one left. The one that had needed repair at the time we Bought our first one. He gave us a deal so we bought it.

You can see them in this picture where we bought them. If you look at the top the front one is a Mill Port. and if you look close the rear one says T&S. They were brand new when they sold them. These machines are very expensive from Rottler. They were Around $80k they don't sell them anymore .They are all in a cabinet CNC units now. Over $100K.

I'll get better pictures in the shop tomorrow of both in place. The last mill he brought home is real nice and the one lathe is all digital readout and precise . The trailer he picked up comes in handy to haul machines like this. He is going to be moving to the bigger shop he'll need it. We hauled a crank grinder to the new shop that weighed 16000 lbs. It is going to take both machines to put it in place. Never a dull moment with my son.
