What’s a fair price? 69 GTS

Tell him sure for $20K but you want the 340 exhaust manifolds and iron intake, and search around if he has a 69 340 auto carb or any A/C stuff. The A/C stuff and iron intake aren't easy to ship vs what they sell for. So he's not really giving in much.

Also, what is the bore on that 340? any rust in cylinders from storage? A lone poor core block is not worth $2K. 69's model year 340's seem easier to find than '68's. It's not the end all.

He doesn’t have the Ac stuff but I have it on my purple car, it doesn’t work either lol. I’ll ask him about any other stock stuff when I come back to pick it up.

In my book, which is filled with rust, a non hacked up non rusted out solid running stopping GTS with 2 engines is worth all the $ I don't have at the moment.
Add in the connection to more Mopar goodness, sold.

$2k is cheaper than time and regret.

A solid 69 GTS, dry climate body, complete and running, plus the extra 340? I call that a pretty good buy at 20k, plus it opens the door to a new friendship that may bring you a lot more down the road.

20 k maybe a little high for that car. Maybe 20 if it was an original big block car in that condition But it's what someone is willing to pay that's what it's worth. Even a middle of the line restoration is going to cost you $30,000 so now you're in 50 k.

more like 45K these days

here's a data point: less than a year ago i bought an original black plate ca car 68 270. 273/904/PS/AC manual drums. it had some dust ups in the past with the usual 70's body work, but no real filler to speak of and basically zero rust. the interior was freshly covered bench/rear, new headliner and carpet, and everything else was driver plus. running, driving, complete tagged and titled car i drove 3hrs home for a tick over 12K

i'd consider the motor with the GTS to be 2500 value give or take. so lets round that thing down to 18K the big block that's in it is a push unless you can sell it for a G, so let's go with that. now we're at 17.

to me, a GTS with a 340 is 17 all day, that's only 5 off my bread and butter 273 2bbl car and way, way more upside on the top end of things.

but like you said, it's only worth what somebody will pay.

I want the 340 for long term value of the car but I’ll leave the 383 in it and run it.
What is the long-term value of a non-numbers matching engine car? compared to an original engine which could be proven in 1969. Thus entering the gray area of what a car is worth with a date coded engine. All we know for sure is the numbers do not match so it is not a truly original car. When you get to this point it's just a matter of choice. Do you really want the car that will probably never be worth more than 20 to 25K? It has good option codes and providing it is GTS. I really like it. If it was close to me and had the date coded 340 and trans etc I would be at 10k. It looks like the clear coat is peeling off and who knows what's under that vinyl top. One thing is for sure if you go for it to put it back to a 340 you need all that mechanical work. It needs a complete paint job and a new vinyl top plus what's under it fixed and then on to the interior. If you are not buying it to have fun driving it. I would let it go.

It's a GTS car, rust free and looks to be straight. From people wanting 20K or more for a 318 car I'd say at least $25,000.

ps Ain't no 318 Dart worth 20K or 10K Unless it is mint, #1 cond. and has a 340 in it! There are only a few exceptions.

lol tough crowd.

I will say if anyone here knows of a clean GTS, rust free, clean interior, running and driving with a brand new rebuilt 340 to go with it let me know, I’d be interested. heck if anyone can find me a rebuilt 340 for 2k, I’d be interested in that too. I find lots of 340s for sale, blocks 850-1500 rebuilt 340 motors 4-6k all day long.

Really though, the next one will be a convertible.

A spade is a spade Doc!

We could put you in this California car for less than 7K LOL

I would buy it for the 20K with the extra rebuilt engine and not look back.
And then drive it with the 383 and keep the 340 for another project or later on...

Please show me your 10k GTS for sale, I have cash on me now. I know it’s not a numbers matching car, I never said it was. But we can see many cars for sale here and everywhere else, non numbers matching and very rarely do these old cars change hands for 10k.

20-25k buys you an entry GTS, non desirable colors, needs work, etc etc.

This is just a fun car that I’ve been after a few years and guy finally decides to sell it. I’m down for the ride.

No offense Doc you asked for the opinions. I love Dart's and as I said I love that one. It's just a no money deal unless you just want to drive it. If you want to restore it and spend 25K at least you would be in it for 35K if you bought it for 10, If you bought it for 20 you would be in it for 45K.

exactly.

please show me these 10K 67~69 darts that aren't total rusted out **** boxes, slant six cars that have been V8 swapped or need 10K to make them respectable road going machines.

i'll buy all the ones Doc doesn't.

I’m not mad I just love the valuations here, some of them are about 10 years in the past still though. I bought my purple one for 8500 7-8 years ago but around here you can’t touch good non rusty cars for less than 20. Unless you want the less desirable year cars. I just paid 850 for a clean 340 block a month or so ago and was ecstatic.

Went to Vegas for a work trip and to see some family. Bought a car, wife wasn’t even mad, she actually wants me to buy this 68 one instead, since we missed out on the green 69 from FABO. 1968 Dodge Dart - CHA618

That’s a good vacation.
That's a nice one! Sell the other three and buy it. Ooops, but then you wouldn't have anything to work on......... except teeth! LOL! Good luck, Doc.

Imo, it seems value is drastically different between I want to sell, I'm selling, I want to buy, and I bought threads.

When I bought my first a-body, told I'm an idiot who paid too much.
Well guess what, I put 10 times that into it in the last 17 years and it looks exactly the same.
Who's laughing now.
