What’s it worth Boyd Coddington 66 panel 426

-
I'm afraid you came to get answers but many in the FABO community had a really low opinion of and see no providence in anything by a jerk such as him.

Wow. I never saw Coddington as a jerk. I liked what I saw of his builds. He knew how to build a car with some big rubber under it. Unlike the hated Chip Foose approach with rubber band tires.

air bags actually. It just has some square tubing supporting suspension right now. I do have the bags they’re just not installed. I think the square tubing might be what you’re seeing. She’s made to sit right down then raise up to drive

Charlie the painter is an awesome guy. Ran into him at California speedway, he helped me out and didn't have to.

Depending on which engine that is... problem child cummins build, short end, might be 25K could be 50K The rusty iron gonna be a pain for whoever takes it on next

I like 70 bees, so that truck isn't THAT ugly! :)

i have a 67 swept with a 64 nosie ...i like it but not even 30k worth to me
my body guy met chip said he was i nice guy ...boyd think was a better builder but seamed a little stuck on himself

Like they say There's an *** for every seat. When it comes to people with money, someone would pay top buck just to have it finished and say it was a completion of a Boyd build. After all, it's only money.

That is so ugly if it was my step sister I would not sleep with it. I doubt Boyd could have made it look good. These guys are in the ballpark as the Hemi is the money side of the build.

184k in bills and non overdrive auto trans? Prob better off selling engine then sell as a roller for 10 - 20k or so.

If its so great why did fat cat fork over 184k and not find another shop to finish since its ready for final paint???

Gonna be very hard to find a buyer for it being in project car state. Maybe get it painted and finished then maybe a fat cat buyer would surface. Any fat cat buyers gonna want PS PB AC over drive trans and want it turn key done....

Can you finish it and sell it back to fat cat deep pocket more money then brains guy you bought it from? Ask him what color he wants it painted? Swap in an 8 speed auto trans etc etc etc....

here's a fun exercise that i've used for other vehicle purchases.

say that thing is worth 100K done, just an arbitrary number.

so, it's a half done project. that's 50%
50K

it's not running, there's another 50%
25K

a bunch of custom hot rod **** that needs to be done, including interior, 50% again

15K (rounding up)

variables:
boyd's name is attached: +/- 5K
no tags/title: knock like 2K off
one of them bad hemi motors: knock off another 2

while there's a little room for interpretation, the basic formula usually works...

Many people had seen him as a sociopath, the shop foreman was a one as well. A friend of mine worked for him, for a number of years. The Boyd and his shop foreman were jerks. Maybe he turned out some nice customs but, many managers, CEO's, business owners, are sociopaths, some in history were psychopaths.

It's impossible to put a price on it, the cheaper you sale it the more possible buyers and easier to sale it, the more you want it narrows down the potential buyers and harder to find but don't mean their not out there. Start highish and work your way down and or see what possible trades people might do.

May want to photoshop a few after type pictures to give people an idea what it could look like.
A lot of people have no imagination maybe even set it up with a good stance and put a grill and etc.. on it, also could put it in a cool setting and take some magazine type photos the cooler you make it look easier for someone to want to buy and build.

So everything there has been sitting for a minimum of 16 years. Some of that brand new stuff won’t even be good anymore. 16 year old rubber? If it was in a car you’d replace it.

That’s a complete start over. Boyd’s reputation went in the shitter, pretty much everyone under 70 associates him as an overhyped fad builder at this point. It might be a negative to advertise it as a Boyd car now. That’s a $100k project with not even half that in return when it’s finished.

The hemi is the only thing worth anything, and after sitting for 16+ years it’s gonna have to be completely torn down and reassembled at the minimum.

I like those trucks and I wouldn’t take that thing if it was given to me, that thing is a huge undertaking.

Think sell the motor
Swap in a new gen engine trans
Paint an dump with the boyd name
He's not gene Winfield...that guy had talent
