I put a Classic Auto Air unit in my 69 Barracuda about 20 years ago. The instructions were not very good at the time, but the guys on their tech line were excellent. The instructions are better now. It still blows ice cold.

I am looking for the same thing for my 74 Duster 360. I just want an under dash unit since I rebuilt my heating system when I finished the restomod in November.
Classic Auto Air has an under dash unit and can put together all of the underhood components for about $2K. Looking at Vintage and Old Air systems as well. It's too bad no one (yet) makes an A body kit.
Let me know what you choose and how the install goes.

I still think that the basic mechanical parts of the Classic Air kit are best... BUT it is NOT a "Perfect Fit Kit". If you are an old hot rodder and used to solving installation issues for after market parts, there would be nothing that you can't figure out. There are several threads on FABO that document various people's installation sagas. This is NOT and simple bolt on project!

You are right that it is not a simple bolt on installation. When I did my exact fit unit about 20 years ago, the instructions were pretty bad. I consider myself to be a pretty good mechanic, but I struggled in places due to crappy instructions. They have been updated. How much better they are now is another question. The guys on the tech line are friendly and helpful. My advice is to read through the instructions several times while looking at your car and actually picture yourself doing the steps. That is way better than just going a step at a time without having studied the instructions first. If you are a reasonably good mechanic, I should think you would have no big problems.
Look into aftermarket ac, electric compressor
I am also looking at the electric compressor a/c/heater kit. Only down fall I see, and my buddies also think, is that the a/c comp draws approx 50 amps. Alternator upgrade as well as maybe a 2nd battery. kits are pretty well complete and also some offer heat as well. But OP already has heat. Ebay and Amazon show those kits approx avg 500.00.

I got my under dash AC kit from cold master for $500, it included everything except compressor brackets. I bought universal brackets from summit for like $60 and fabbed em up for my slant six. I bought a crimp tool for the lines, ac gauges and an evac pump off Amazon for a couple hundred or so. I also bought some additional fittings to customize and clean up the install. All in I was under $1000, now have the tools and knowledge to do it again, have the coldest ac known to mankind, and saved roughly 1500 over the "name brand" AC systems that have the same Chinese parts I have.
