Does anyone know what axles will fit an 8 1/4 a-body? Looking at a rear end but one axle is broken. Could I fit a c-body axle in the rear if I cut and respline the axle? Do I need a 8 1/4 axle or will anyhting else fit? Any body have any Ideas? Where's the best place to find an 8 1/4 axle? Hamilton Ontario

You will most likely find a Chrysler 8 1/4-inch rear under the following cars:

1983-'89 Fifth Avenue
1976-'80 Aspen and Volare
1975-'83 Cordoba
1972-'76 Coronet
1973-'76 Dart, Duster, Scamp, Valiant
1977-'88 Diplomat
1983-'84 E-Class
1972-'78 Fury, Monaco
1973-'89 Grand Fury
1981-'83 Imperial
1977-'81 LeBaron
1980-'83 Mirada
1972-'82 New Yorker
1972-'81 Newport
1972-'73 Polara
1975 Road Runner
1979-'81 St. Regis
1975-'77 Royal Monaco

Maybe someone here will know what you might have to do to the axles to make them work. Hope the info. helps.

Holy cow. Does anyone know the length of the axle shaft for a 75 A-body 8 1/4. Lots of cars came with them, does anyone know which one is the right length (from make and year)?

To be sure I'd say, 1973-'76 Dart, Duster, Scamp, Valiant axles from 8 1/4 rear will fit. Sorry I don't know the length. Hopefully someone on site will know.

A shopping I must go...If I can't find an A-body 8 1/4. Can I get another axle from another car cut and respline (last resort.) Who sells aftermarket axles for the 8 1/4.

Anyone of the cars that I listed above should have the 8 1/4 rear. Another option for you: Start another post here under "Cars and parts wanted." and say you need axles for an 8 1/4 rear A-body '73-'76. Someone on site must have them.

Not 100% but I think they are 27 in ches,I can go out to the garage and measure one for you?I,ll get back with my measurement tomorrow.

Along the lines of this thread, does anyone know how many splines are on the '75 axles (of the 8 1/4 rear)? So far the only axles I've found for my Duster is from Moser, and they're custom made($375 with shipping for the pair). I have to get the dimensions and # of splines to them, they say it's only a 2 day deal to make them. Seems strange I had no problem getting pinion, gears, chrome cover, and suregrip for the 8 1/4 but nobody has axles for it.

Was looking for axles for a 8 1/4, not cheap and hard to find... Can get axles easier for the 8 3/4 cheaper and more perfomance parts and stronger. Going to build 8 3/4.

Do all 8 1/4 axles fit? Diplomat, etc or do I have to cut and respline them. Been told all 8 1/4 car rear ends are the same length for the axles? Is this true or do I need to get an axle from a 73-76 a-body 8 1/4 only?? Need a little help.....or do I have to buy aftermarket axles?? I need to only replace one....is it better to replace both??? Any one know the axle lenght I need becuase I haven't picked up the axle to be able to measure...
