I have a duralast Gold that is dated 10/08 and it has been a great battery and has moved from car to car and jump started countless other batteries and cars. Even kissed the fan of my 72 demon and I had to patch the corner of it. (which I think shortened its overall life) It has never let me down even on cars with weak charging systems and powering a fork lift.

Well sadly, old reliable died. I tried to bring it back but today it just couldn't bring itself to cranking the coronet enough to start.......and its over.

I have a mind to replace it with another Duralast Gold just like it and go happy for another 7+ years or get another brand.

What do you all out there run??

Good job on getting that many years out of a battery.

I usually run whatever I can get the cheapest.

I have had an optima for close to four years now. It came with a parts truck a while back and we hung onto it. I have never had an issue with it. I do make sure I disconnect it when it's going to be sitting longer then a couple weeks though.

Optima Yellow top. If you want a battery to last put them on a battery tender.

I have an Old farm n fleet battery in the valiant. It's out of my dads 57 ford it is 17+ years old. Gets drained dead from time to time ( something left on) but after a good trickle charge it's good to go. Now the old energizer battery in the dart is even older n still going. Granted both are in toy cars and only see an occasional start in the winter.

Interstate in everything. Worth the extra cost to put reliable battery in my cars, especially my wife's Intrepid.

I go to the local Mopar dealership and get factory Mopar Batteries. They say Mopar, and I have some in their tenth year. I never got that out of the other brands. Usually the 1500 Ram Battery is an exact fit to the GTX. Under 100.00 Bucks as well.

The white cased batterys are all made by Johnson Controls as mentioned,,

The black cased batterys are made by Exide,,

The all go under different names,, by who-ever ...

Since batteries became sealed "maint free"., if a battery is overcharge for a while,, and boils some fluid away,, you can't top them up to keep the plates covered,, and that's gonna shorten battery life..

Back when we filled our own batts, I was taught that 50% of all premature batter failure was due to "improper activation",, meaning the weren't filled right,, main concern was un-even fluid levels, and dilution of the electrolyte in the lesser cells when topping off with distilled water..,, that started a "self-discharge" cycle..

      Avg expected life of a lead-acid battery,, 5 - 7 yrs..

      cheers..

No matter which brand you choose, here is my personal opinion.....whatever that's worth. lol

I have seen first hand and read about second hand a good many failures with the gel cell types. IMO, the lead acid type is superior. Specifically, the serviceable type where you can pop the caps off and add electrolyte over time. Maintenance free types SUCK because once they are low on electrolyte, they are toast. There's no saving them.

Agreed, R,R.R.. As, a (ex) parts guy, they want the "maintence -free" label, throw the big "free replacement, then pro rated , per month silliness on you) , You pay more than you need. This always frustrated me, as a trying to be honest parts guy...(Sorry about , the rant. )

I think the factory Mopar battery in my 03 Wrangler lasted 8 years, my wife's 02 Neon when we traded it off had the factory 9 year old battery.
Good to know they are not that expensive.

Interstate not too impressed, I replaced the original Mopar battery in my Wrangler with one that has 1000 cranking amps, I think it turns slower than the old battery after about a year of service.

I actually have had good luck out of Advanced Auto most expensive ones (I think they are gold) in my Power Wagon and Willys but they are only a couple of years old, time will tell.
