What can I expect for HP out of this 408. Anyone else have something similar?

I am assuming the heads are 72cc so im guessing ill be around 10.5-1 compression?

Im looking For a fast street car and i hope this will make me happy. Its going in a 1973 dart sport, 4 speed, 8 3/4 (3.91)

Totally dependent on the heads working well

I know a 340 that was built with Ede mild clean up, 10.5:1, victor 340, 750dp and that cam. Made 455hp.

More carb for sure especialy when racing. Heck at least 800 cfm.

I ran that cam in my 318/390 - cast 587 heads flowed 243 @ .550...2.02 valve , soft in the exhaust.............so nothing great.

M1, 800 cfm carb,re-curved dist and Crane Hi-6.....and small tube tri Y headers....

My best MPH 111.2 in a 3650 car says around 420 HP.........that was dyno tuned then track tuned.

I reckon with good heads and good pipes you'll tip 460HP......

what do the heads flow?

A few people on her can get 275-290's cfm by .500-.550 lift out of those heads.

The 485hp range is fair.

yeah.....thats the "kicker"....I'm assuming a "cleaned up" set of Eddies would flow about 265 @ .600?....

...In which case .500 (at the valve - less lash) lift will struggle to make 480.....

My 408 w2 motor is making 530hp with a 750 DP. That being said an 850 would show more.

I have a 750dp on my car in my sig (it is a 650dp with a 750 proform main body), and almost that same cam except mine is a roller (XR286R), and I use ported Eddy heads. It went 123 mph in the 1/4 last year....with that said, I am going to try a 950dp this year because I think it could use more carb.

I would think you should have a mid 11 second car. If I were to change anything it would be the intake (Air-gap), then the carb.

Thats a bigger motor than mine, one point less compression, I am running the factory heads, factory intake, and a thermoquad, through the exhaust manifolds. It has been 120+mph in the quarter.

A 750 is more than enough. Even a 650 will work good. Engines like this do not flow a ton of air, so going to a bigger carb does not help much if at all. If bigger was always better we would all be running Dominators.

Plug your engine information into CamQuest. That little program is pretty accurate.

As far as a carb, use a CFM calculator to get a close estimate. You won't need as much as you think. A 750 will be plenty.
