Not having much experience with Chryslers (other than camshafts) I am building a 408ci 360 chrysler for a 1967 Baracuda. So I am thinking about a 650-700 cfm carb, but I don't know what works with the throttle, trans, kick down. all the Chrysler linkage stuff? I am looking for Holley? Edelbrock? what carb type is best suited for this application. Seriously! Mark Engle

Mark, you can search threads here, and people debate this all the time. You need at least a 750, and linkage connects to both Edelbrock and Holley.

650-750.

You will need adapters to fit the throttle stud to connect the linkage to an edelbrock or a holley. (Or drill out the hole in the arm)

The rest is all up to you.

a 650~700 will be suitable, however depending on useage of the car you might want to look toward 750 or possibly more.

for cruiser, a 650 AVS 2 is an excellent choice. great throttle response, crisp all around and easy to set up & dial in.

from the holley camp a quick fuel brawler series would be another great selection as well. highly tunable, lots of support and very flexible and forgiving.

if you're leaning more bruiser than cruiser and the build looks more like a street/strip car then the answer is, and will always be a holley double pumper.

the respective aftermarket provides in the throttle linkage department, figure on probably, maybe changing the throttle cable. kick down can be handled via an aftermarket cable or re-pop hardware from somebody like mancini or vans.

Whichever carb you decide on, you will need the appropriate throttle/kickdown lever adapter for Mopars.

And don't forget the throttle stud, available from a variety of suppliers-

Depending on the manifold you intend on using, you may need a longer throttle cable to reach some of the taller manifolds- usually a slant six cable will reach with plenty to spare.
As far as cable attachment goes, AR engineering makes a nice adjustable one that should reach most all height manifolds, but will require using an aftermarket cable style kickdown linkage (Lokar, Bouchillon, etc.)

Thank you for the informative info. Having been on the dyno with several engines, I know I can make 450 HP and 450 Ft lbs of torque with a 650 AVS 2 carb on a 383. Then pick up 8-10 HP at 6000 rpm by going to a 750 cfm. You just give away everything else below 6000 rpm, and on a hot street deal, you don't spend much time @ 6000 rpm... You spend a lot of time leaving stop signs and cruising 75 on the hiway.

Thank You for the detail and link!

Pictured here, stock build 360 with Edelbrock AVS 2 650 cfm. Good match for the displacement, ran out real nice just bolting it on.

With Edelbrock Mopar 1481 linkage adapter ^.

We sold Engle Cams to So Cal Imports and the company is still going. Their main focus is VW cams. When they can get cam cores, they can do any of the grinds we always had.

Favorite VW Engle Cam was the W100. Good low end torque for the sand rails we were building back in the year 2000.

Thanks for the good reliable camshafts.

Interesting Fact: The VW 4 cylinder opposed engine had 2 cylinders running off the same cam lobe.

I have a blueprint 408 magnum 375hp 460tq with a 750 Brawler. Based on my AFR the Edelbrock 650AVS would have been a better carb for my setup.
Huh? The AFR is not etched in stone. You can TUNE the carburetor and change the AFR. I wouldn’t ditch the 750 brawler for a 650avs on that combo if you payed me to.

Oh no I didn't ditch the carb I've just been changing out jets. If I woulda known before I would've got a 650 to start with. I'm 150$ into jet kits already, I'm keeping the 750.

Nice. Remember though there are many circuits in those carbs that are entirely tunable. And once dialed in your fuel curve won’t be a curve at all. It’ll be nice and flat. Jetting is only a very small part of tuning the afr.

Thank you. I haven't messed with the circuits yet, been kinda learning as I go. First Holley style carburetor that I've got and I've really liked it so far for 500$.

I have had far better luck with the demon carburetors that are loosely based off the old thermoquad design, especially with the phenolic bowl. It's my go to carb for most any street performance build.

I have one on my Ford truck and It's one of the best carburetors I've ever owned.

Professor, where do you find that throttle piece for the Manuel Trans?
