Actually I never would have thought that country music was known north of the border. I cant even picture a Canadian listening to it. No offense but I am learning here. I figured Canada would be more into Celine Dion and related. Again no offense and sorry for the ignorance but I just had an odd thought about the whole thing. :)

George Strait, Blake Shelton, Eric church. If you don't like George Strait then hit the road.

Life is a real ride girl, so don't blink

What I REALLY like about country music is the fact that the singers are "real people"! When they're not on tour a lot of them have jobs. My brother and his wife use to live in Nashville and one day when my sister in law went grocery shopping she saw Leanne Rimes coming out of the store, no paparazzi, no screaming fans, etc. ppl give them their space and let em live their lives! Try that in the pop or rock world!

Another example, my dad use to deliver trusses, walls and floor joists. One day he took a load of trusses to Garth Brooks' ranch in Nashville. When he was there the general contractor pointed to a man who was busy laying a stone wall and asked dad "do you know who that is?" Dad said "no" and the contractor said "that's Garth Brooks' lead guitar player! When they're not on tour or in studio they work just like everyone else!" THAT'S what makes country music real!!

Hey, see ya!

im just having some fun you guy's and girls take your music seriously .there is good and bad music of all types . The newer music never really caught my ear and there is so many new singers and bands these day i can't keep up but every now and then a good one comes along .

Someone should write a song..."Country ain't Country Anymore". I'm not knocking modern country, but in my opinion, it has become modern rock light.

It's almost impossible to recognize who is singing unless you already know who it is. Having grown up with the likes of Johnny Cash, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette, Buck Owens, Charlie Pride, Roy Clark, Merle Haggard, Ferlin Husky, Loretta Lynn, Jim Reeves, Charlie Rich, and several others, you could tell within a few notes who the artist was. They had unique sounds and styles. It was the same for the musicians. Boots Randolph, Floyd Cramer, Chet Atkins, all instantly recognizable.

At some point, the record producers decided that a certain sound sold, and instead of searching for new and different talent, they searched for people who could emulate that sound of sameness. Oh, there are some artists who still have country in their soul, but they are few. Since Brooks & Dunn retired, I can't think of anyone who could do a song like Brand New Man, or Neon Moon. Ronnie Dunn was one of the last instantly recognizable voices in the business. I guess I just like strong singing voices, not wimpy sound-alike and look-alike guys that have become the norm. Seems like scruffy beards, uncombed hair, dirty tee-shirts, and a voice that matches, is what it takes to succeed today. Unfortunately, Willie already did the unkempt appearance thing, and it's not attractive on him, but Willie has a voice that will never be mistaken for anyone else.

My wife was step-mother to a well known singer who topped the charts for several years, so she is quite knowledgeable about the country music industry. Like everything else it has changed a lot, and not always for the better.

I still love the sound of country, but find myself changing stations trying to find something that doesn't sound like it was selected or generated by a computer.

I agree, new country is just American Idol country style. The record company decides who they think will be the next big star, they have someone write a bunch of songs, put a band together and then cut an album. I prefer traditional country. Hank Sr., Waylon, Willie, Merle, etc. Been listening to a lot of Hank III lately.

Eric church is about the only pop country I can handle. The rest sounds awful to me. Hank III is another good one.
