Group Package 'Options'

attachment.php

Steve,
Dart had different accessory group options, but a lot of what is listed for the barracuda, save the formula-s package, could be had for the Dart.
65 they had a Dart Charger
66 they made a super stocker (D-Dart)

Do these options also apply to 1964, 1965, and 1966 Dodge Dart GT ?

OK, seems like the Gen I Barracuda F/S cars were thoroughly discussed so lets move on to the Gen II (67-69) cars shall we? :happy1:

Yup in 67 the D-9 code 479 Kelsey Hayes front disc brakes were mandatory with 383 engine. In 68-9 they became optional for the same package. Also all big blocks were Formula-S where the 273 Commando cars could be had either way.

Rocky JS,

1967 Plymouth Barracuda was 'introduced' to the Dealers on November 15, 1966.

On the 'new' 383, the Plymouth Production Line was dropping in the 383 Big-Block Engine from the
top on the A-Body cars.

The 1967 Barracuda 383 'Formula S' was only available with 3.23 Gears 'Sure-Grip' from the factory.

Dealers were told, 'not' to offer any Dealer Installed Gear Options.

I have found that the big block 383 cars were sold, but the production of them didn't really start until around March of 67. Almost all I have been able to document (50 or so H-code cars) were built between March and April 1967.
My green car 383 fastback is a 3.23 open, non sure-grip, from the factory which did strike me as odd. The build card also supports the 3.23 open - no 408 code.

Rocky JS,

Did you know that 'Hot Rod Magazine' {December 1966} did a Performance Test on a 1967 Barracuda '383'.

The test was done in October 1966, and the article was printed in the December 1966 Magazine.

Yes, there were a few Tests done on the BB Barracuda in 66. I also know they were selling them in December. It appears they weren't produced/delivered to the GP until March - April though. The earliest SPD I have is Feb 27th and all the rest from March 20. I am open the believe differently I just don't see it in the documentation I have been able to gather.

I have heard the gear options outside of the 2.23's were not recommended as well as the 16:1 fast ratio steering.

Rocky JS,

I have a November 1966 "Plymouth Service Manual' that lists the Barracuda with a 383.

There is also a 31 page supplement 67-25-6, November 25, 1966 for the 67 Barracuda in general in the service manual that came after the printing of the initial manual.

I do completely understand what you're saying. Nor I am not arguing what you're saying. I have seen what your saying.
Perhaps they did a small early batch of 67 Barracuda's w/383's for testing, shows, parade etc? Maybe they were conversions done for the above purposes?

I have never seen an early dated (SPD) 383 car in the last 5 years I have been collecting data on them. This is also supported by the original purchaser of my 67 383 car. He said he ordered the car in December and didn't take delivery of it until April which I thought was kind of bazaar. It has a SPD of 3/28/67 and again it was special order, expedite build. I need to call him and meet for coffee and give him a ride in the car since I have it on the road now, as I promised him. I will pick his brain again at that point and see what information I can get.

What I am asking if someone can document with facts some early "production" 67 383 (H-code) Barracuda car(s) I am all ears. The earliest one I have is February 27, 1967. That car was a red/red coupe w/auto. All of the rest I have been able to document range from mid March through April and all were Special Order with U1 code.

Hot Rod Magazine {December 1966}

Did the 'first' Performance Test that was printed. The best guess, has the date around October 1966,
when Plymouth delivered the Barracuda for the general overview.

Years ago, when I talked to Dave Kempton {Plymouth Stocker Drag Racer}, he said that in December 1966
Plymouth was going to 'give' him a 1967 Barracuda 383 'Automatic' to 'prep' and to run in 'C/SA' at the
1967 NHRA Winternationals at Pomona.

For one reason or another, the deal was 'squashed' when Plymouth wanted Dave to purchase the car.

2} Plymouth offered the 8 3/4" Rear-End as a 'warranty replacement unit' only, and not as part of the standard
option.

3} The 8 3/4" Rear-End became available as a late-year 1965 Production installation.

Anyone know when in the model year the 8 3/4 became available? Would it be indicated on the fender tag?
