9EEA554B-2891-45B6-9B17-3F44A89E9A7E.jpeg I broke part of this plastic piece. Does anyone know what it’s called, so I can order a new one? I think it is a button that is pushed whenever you turn the key over. It has two red wires attached to it.

That was the "key in buzzer" switch. I'm not sure if it is reproduced.

I wonder how much research money went into making the most annoying sound in the universe. You owe it to the team to restore it to it's former glory.

When we discovered it was still functionall in jr's Scamp we admired our electrical prowess for about 30 seconds. Then he said you need to make that stop. Lol.
He didn't appreciate the engineering either.

So if I remove the plastic piece and the two red wires, it won't affect anything else in the car? I don't really want to pay for an annoying sound either.

someday you will leave your keys hanging in the ignition and lock the door as you walk away :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Wait, I don't think it's possible on my 69 Valiant, unless the window is down, but then it wouldn't be an issue..

A locked cardoor of a 50 year old classic 2dr hardtop is no deterrent to anyone, and I'm not interested in replacing broken windows; so I just leave the doors unlocked. For some years I didn't even have a key for the doors. There's no telling how many people have sat in my bucket, besides me,lol.

I look at it this way; if TOO MANY CAPS IN A ROW ARE MAKING KIDS CRY, then they are not likely to know how to drive stick anyway, nevermind knowing how to hotwire it,lol. So if someone just wants to keep my bucket warm, I'm OK with that.

                          NEVER! :D
I have an extra set of keys for my car, but I NEVER close the doors or trunk either one without checking to make sure where the keys are.
                          Just an old habit.

And in this age of auto-locking doors that habit has saved my butt a couple of times; NEVER trust the electronics.

roll up windows, push down on lock/unlock plunger on upper door edge and close door, repeat on other side and get back to me

That changed at some year model. Earlier doors were key locked. If he has a key warning buzzer he should have hand lockable doors. Someone mentioned 69 model. That wouldn't have same column with key and buzzer.

Actually I don't remember ever locking keys in a car, but maybe it's selective recollection.:D
I remember others doing it though.
Some people I know have even left a car in drive when they shut the motor off and got out of the car only to have it roll off somewhere, and that's another one I have never done (so far):D
My Wife's Sister did this multiple times, and she lived at the top of a big hill and came out to find her car 1/8 mile down the hill, off the road and out in the weeds.
She thought someone was messing with her car and doing it on purpose.:D

I did it ....once (locked keys in car).
I know someone who left the car running and locked them-self out of it, no it wasnt me. And theres something I have heard you cant do with todays cars, supposedly you cant lock the doors with the key in the ignition.

I've gone to car shows , left keys in the car and walked away . socialized for a time and returned to find the keys there . the only way anyone can steal my car is with a rollback . I have a battery disconnect , with a keyfob , and, if the rollback is successful , a GPS tracking device mounted inside car . And, if that fails , a 9mm

It's not possible for me to leave the keys in the ignition. When I hit second gear, the car jumps so hard, the keys can't keep up; I have to go look for them somewhere in the back.
And I can't lock myself out, cuz the vent window lock is broke. Never mind that it is a hardtop, and any 7 year old kid can stick his arm in there if he wanted to, and pop the plunger up . I even made it easier for the bad guys by installing these huge dice thingies on the door-lock plunger, that my young daughter bought me for my birthday one year. I think that was 2001 or maybe 2002. They are still on there, lol.
Yeah, Leroy, I have locked my keys in other cars, but since I got married, there is always a second set nearby. That was 41 plus years ago, lol. My wife lugs a suitcase around that she somehow still calls a purse, bless her soul. When she parks that tank in the house, it takes 20 minutes for her back to straighten out.
