Im looking at buying a 71 demon but after seeing several photos of the car it looks much rougher than i expected. I was wondering if you guys could persuade me on what to do. Part of me thinks this is just a parts car and move on. The frame rails are solid. Its a slant six car with the sizzler package. It needs lower quarters, front floor pans, radiator core support, trunk pan and extensions, along with interior. And if you did decide to buy it what would you pay?

Looks like it'll need floors, trunk pan, and lower quarters at the least. Looks like someone already cut out the trunk pan for you. Based on the separated trunk extension it may have been in a minor accident in the back.

Surprisingly though, the rest of the car doesn't look too bad. I wouldn't say its a parts car at all, seems like floors and quarters are a pretty standard job for resto's now. It was a high mileage car too, the busted out nader pins mean the hinges were used enough to wear out, and then used enough after than to bust the nader pin out of the door jamb.

Price depends on where you're at. If you're back east or down south, that's not a bad start. If you're out West, you can find much more solid cars to start with. I'd start at $500 and see where it goes. I don't think I'd pay much more than $1k for it in the condition its in. Only reason I'd go that high is because its a '71 Demon.

I live in Indiana, asking price is 1750, I was thinking i wouldnt offer anymore than 800.

I would tend to agree.

I think $300 is a little low actually, but that's just me. Heck the glass is worth that much.

Was it a V8 car? 8 3/4 rear?

Its a slant six car, with a 8 1/4 rear end. If it was a 340 car, i would pay a little more, i dont think the guy will come down as far as i am willing to pay so i think i am going to let it go

Might not be a bad plan to let it go.

$1750 is HIGH. I paid $2k for my Duster, and it ran, even if it was only on 5 of its 6 cylinders...

a 72 demon just sold for $500 here in kansas--- looked to be in better shape than the one your looking at(not by much)-- it had m/t still in the car. Lawrence

I paid $400 for mine a few years ago. No real rust, perfect grill,73 bucket seats and tracks and a bunch of parts to sell. It had no front brakes, but an easy fix with a 73 parts car. Unless there are parts not pictured I would stick with $300

500 max for that free rust car...

I wouldn't pay 800 for that unless it had 500 in cash with it!

Look at the drivers front frame rail right below the battery. If it's rotted out, walk away for anything more than $350

Im going to walk away, im still somewhat new to the restoration hobby so it would be a lot of work for me.

Be patient you'll find something better for that money. May not be a Demon.

I sold a nice 71 Duster 318/auto 8.75 car for $1500 and it had minimal rust issues.

Good decision if you don't have experience. Wait for something that at least is in running order.

WAs at a classic sale yesterday saw a 72 duster 440 car done and road ready go for 10000. that was a buy. in purple also.

That car looks really rough. Unless you are very good at metal work and always wanted a yellow /6 Demon, pass on it. That guy will never get $1750, not running, no motor, and LOTS of rust.

In this economy and it being a buyers market I wouldn't give more the a few hundred dollars for that pile of ****.

Too many clean cars out there for decent prices. By the time you buy and fix all the metal issues on it you'll have way more then it's worth in it. And at the end of the day it's only a 6cyl demon. I'd pass on it, save some money and buy one that is at least a running and driving car.

You're smart to walk away........it would be way too expensive
to get that car into half decent shape.

Wilson

I would love to have the steering wheel though :)
