If he has proper 70 340 three piece linkage that's not the right spring, that spring is for big blocks... the 340 spring connects to a tab on the upper rod.. As seen in this picture..

you can put a rubber band on it, for all it needs to do, which is to just minimize the weight on the TV valve. I've had a few cars in the which that spring was awol; which didn't seem to bother it.

The spring linked above by junkyard hero as being for a one piece linkage appears to be pretty close & would work... I searched but couldn't find the correct spring listed anywhere... It use to be available, might call Tom @ R/T Specialties..
