Tilt the motor to the back, and prime it out of the car. That might prove whether it's truly sealed or not.
Ok... I'll remember to do that.

Check the fitting where the oil pressure sender screws into the back of the block. Check the rear of the intake and rear of both valve covers. Always look for the simple stuff first. You say you have a PCV system with breathers in both valve covers? Should be PCV in one, breather in the other. If you are getting a lot of crankcase pressure its usually an indication of worn rings, cracked piston, etc., anything that causes the combustion gases to get from above the piston to the crankcase. With no actual PCV valve (or one set up incorrectly) you will feel some pressure in the crankcase since air is displaced by the pistons on the down stroke. But crankcase pressure will normally cause leaks while running, not when stopped.

Great thread, sorry she's still leaking. I have gone through the same issues and the damn thing still leaks. It's coming out over the winter and I am going to try to find a way to seal it up. Maybe it's the Milodon pans? Don't try the expensive ($60) one piece pan gasket, it didn't fix mine. Hacks me off because I too hate leaks and I see plenty of 360's that don't. Let's get this thing figured out!
Also check the oil filter adapter real good. With clean oil it's hard to see where it's coming from easily. When I first put my engine together a few yrs. ago it developed a leak that look for sure like it was coming from the rear main area but after close examination I found it was running down from the oil filter adapter onto the pan in a small stream making it look like it was coming from the pan. Also whoever told you to run a breather on each side don't know what he was talking about. You always run a pcv valve on one side and one breather on the other. Nothing else. That way the pcv valve pulls a vacuum through the crankcase from one side to the other.
Is it oil or tranny fluid? You said that you ran it and didn't see any leaks for a day or two then all of a sudeen its pissing oil on the floor just sitting there (like a new Harley). A rear main seal will not leak just sitting, neither will an oil pan gasket unless you have so much oil in it that its over the rail of the pan. Plus you say its running out of the front dust cover on the bellhousing? A main seal will leak and the oil will come from down the back ot the pan or dust shield if installed but only when running, not stopped.
starting to make me wonder if its the cam plug or an oil galley plug.sounds like the pan is good and sealed up and you have tacled the other trouble spot's
I pulled the 90* oil filter adapter off and re-sealed it twice (pita) to no avail. Mine also leaks on the rh side pan rail area and runs back as well. Makes those expensive coated headers look like crap. I am beginning to think I have a cracked block or something. I'll find out in a few weeks after I get the heater installed in the garage and pull it.
Don't feel bad, I too have leaks and am fed up with trying to fix it. Looks like its the front or side pan seal, but can't tell for sure. It collects on my k-member and drips off and also cooks on my right side header (nice black streaks). I've taken the pan off once with motor still in the car. Almost lost my religion. Next time, I'll pull the motor, it has to be easier. Good luck, hope you get it fixed. Mine is just going to have to leak for a while. Lately, I've been working on it more than driving it. By the way, its a 340.
That's exactly what I was thinking but didn't know what to call them. I new they was located on the block inside the bell housing.
I'm just about ready to say heck with and let it leak. I just need to hurry up and cover my floor with exposy so the oil will wipe up easily. LOL
Sounds like what I would just do.LOL.
Maybe some Pigmat on the underside???
I know my rear main is leaking as well on my 360.
When I pull the inspection cover, I can see the oil leaking at the back of the crank and drips down.
I may get like a dime sized spot where it sits and that is it so I think it is just residual from leaking while running.
hmmm, this was not good news
1. dry everything up with a cloth
2. wait some time (drive the rocket 600 for a day or so)
3. look for oil leaks
hmmm no, i dont think it could leak from the galley plugs, they seal up well, the camshaft plug is the only alternative for a leak back there. if its not the main seal or the pan agen.
u cant rly tell when its just a mess of oil.. btw the dam pvc valve that comes with the engine is crap.. the seat is always full of oil and the spring tention is always wrong.. ditch it and get a new bigger one (in most cases this are the problem, espess if the engine has a few miles and started to leak down a bit) if the check the breather to, that its not packed with dirt and oil..
ps if u get tired of waiting for the leak, u could always add a bit pressure down the dip stick tube... WARNING dont overdo it.. dont want u to blow any other seals.
