I would like opinions on what 12 volt, automotive, wheeled battery charger to purchase.
Requirements:
1) I want several current ranges including a 2 amp trickle charge.
2) Unit must be automatic so there is no over-charging
3) Quality built. What does that mean? I have been reading reviews on the Schumacher battery chargers. Many of the complaints include the sheetmetal is a very thin gauge and dents very easily. Many people that have bought these new, received the units dented when there was not signs of damage to the shipping boxes.
4) Run off a 120 volt/20amp circuit.
I have a 1950 Formal tractor that has been upgraded from a 6 volt to a 8 volt system.
No one that I have found, puts out a charger in 6, 8, 12 volt configuration.
Ultra heavy duty units charge 18 and 24 volt batteries. These options I do not need.
5) Performs automotive charge system diags.
Most of these units charge at 2, 10, 40, 100-150 amps.
I am not against purchasing a used unit. Seems most of todays stuff is from China, and built on the low end of quality with components and housings.
This is a unit that will be used in my garage with use about 1-2x per week.
Your thoughts please

I am not aware of an 8 volt charger. I have a Craftsman I bought 20 years ago that works for what you need. It is 6 volt fast 12 volt low, medium and 12 volt boost. For my 6 volt tractors I have a Harbor Freight 20 dollar unit that does trickle and puts a slower charge is so it wont damage batteries.

My Craftsman is 5 or 6 years old and has been good, 2, 15, 30 and I think 125 amp, it also charges 6 volt batteries. Never seen an 8 volt battery let alone a charger for one.

Check out their products. We use these exclusively in our shops. The one I have now I have been using for about 10 years and it gets used almost daily. They do have one that I saw doing a quick scan of their products that does 8 12 and 16. Didn't read any other specs. I believe they still make them here in the U.S. Also
