What would you charge to do a complete brake job on a '65 Newport? I would have to run new lines (hard prebent, and soft), put in new hardware, pads and wheel cylinders and have all 4 drums turned, also install a new M/C. All parts would be provided.
What would you charge for the labor?

im guessing 4to 8 hours at 50 to a hundred an hour. thats either 200 400 or 800. all depends on what quality mechanic you get. 100 dollars a wheel done right is a good deal

I was thinking 320 to do it all, but I like the guy so I don't want him to think I am screwing him.

Do it your self. I see Some brake shops that want 80+ per axel for a barke jobe, so I would say. Buy the parts and do it your self. It is not that hard. Don't be lazzzzzzzzzzy.

um, yes, I would be doing the work. How much should I charge the guy to do the work?

Sorry. I have had a few to many to night.:drinkers::drinkers::drinkers::drinkers::drinkers::drinkers::drinkers::drinkers:HAHA. I have seen as much as 80 to 100 per axel for that kind of work. Sorry again all man. You are a true Mopar man and I should have known better than to think you would pay some one for a brake job.

That sounds like a good price. I do side work for friends too and thats about what i would charge.

I agree with Burntorange70, its really pretty easy. I redid my 4 wheel drums and all brake lines myself and have had no problems. Not only a learning experience, much cheaper.

not a big deal guys I had my favorite bottle of scotch next to me last night, a Glenmorangie sherry wood finish 12 year.

$100 per axle sounds right but i would charge more for doing the hard lines too..
i would probably get $350 /...

I just charge by the hour. It takes as long as it takes. Cause if I found during a job like that, that the lines weren't bent properly (store bought ones that is) I'm gonna break out the bender and make it all fit like it should.

Look at the "IT" thread to see some fuel lines I just did for "IT". Clears everything. Rubs on nothing. Filter where I wanted it. Flared ends at the filter ends of the metal lines. (you can only make just so sharp of a bend without wrinkling it)

I always try to work in tools also. Double flaring tool, good bender, etc.. If this is for a good friend. When I do work for people that are not on my close friend list it's usually 50% to 75% of shop price. Depends on if I like the type of car or not. Old school rear drive vs. newer front wheel drive p.o.s. And I let them know why I'm charging whatever I'm charging, and if they help it also changes the pricing.

I say you do it for free!!! Make the guy go out there and do the work and you tell him what to do, Show him how to do it so next time he can do it himself. Remember the first time somebody showed you how to do something. Spread the knowledge

lol he is a busy computer guy who is working 60+ hours a week designing a new os. I have all the tools needed and the lines should all be pre made, I would just have to unbend and install, not a big deal.
