Coming out of a gas station yesterday morning, I jumped in my truck and looked at the S10 next to me to see the driver pouring vodka into his drink. I'm not talking a splash, he was pouring. The worst part is this is the second time I have seen the same guy doing it. The first time I didn't believe what I was seeing. I passed it off as seeing things as I glanced at him as I walked by. This time I actually watched him pour. :( I don't want to get a guy in trouble, but I couldn't live with myself if he drove off and killed somebody. I got his plates and turned it in. Dispatched didn't think they could do anything because I didn't see him drink it nor did I see him intoxicated get behind the wheel. I don't know. I think I did the right thing but I still feel horrible at the same time. I kind of feel dirty...

You got children? You know somebody that does? You did the right thing.

You did the right thing. I have called countless time during my commute to work and back(70 MILES ROUND TRIP) for people drinking a beer or some form of alcohol. If you have ever been on route 80 in NJ during rush hour its a nightmare, but add alcohol to the mix that is just wrong. I wouldn't beat yourself up. The man decided his fate. Lets just hope he doesn't take anyone with him.

Thanks
James

Just this week alone in Arizona, 3 head on crashes from people going the wrong way on a highway where people died. One of the innocent killed was a police officer. One was alcohol related, one prescription drug, and not sure of the 3rd.

I wouldn't feel bad you did the right thing. Too many people driving while under the influence. If everyone would just grasp the seriousness of that, then maybe more people would care enough to call.

I got rear ended by a 18 year old drunk driver back in '88 with a mid 80's Ford Escort that he had "pegged to the floor" doing over 90 mph. I was wearing my seat belt and walked away with a SEVERE CASE OF WHIPLASH. He straightened the curve of my spine at my neck. I had to go to Chiropractors for months starting three times a week to get things better, however still have back and neck problems today.

Thank You Abe Zacheim of Wyandotte, Michigan. I hope that karma has caught up to you....

Yes, you did the right thing.

If I have to drive, I will stop myself at two drinks, if I drink at all. I don't want to take a chance to get a DUI.

I once was following a guy for a bit that I suspected was drunk on the back roads coming home to my house. I wasn't sure if I should call it in and decided not to, I regretted not calling. He was swerving all over the road. I refused to pass him and just stay behind him. It's harder for him to hit me if I'm behind him....

Cops are like boobs: They're never around when you are looking for them, but somehow are when you don't want them....

If people are not going to be responsible, they will have to deal with the consequences. They are putting others at risk. Don't feel guilty for turning them in.

Someone drinking vodka in the morning is a professional drunk. They will most likely loose their license and keep driving drunk until they kill someone and get prison time for vehicular homicide. You should have shot him.

Thank you for reporting it. Absolutely right thing.

You could have saved lives, we don't know, only God does, BUT as far as the law is concerned, YES you done the right thing, to me, personally, you done the right thing....

I have to say it how Rob said it.....and I quote:

You got children? You know somebody that does? You did the right thing.

s has been said many times, you did the right thing... too bad you could not have done more.... (like push him in the ditch!) Sad thing is, that the law can not or would not do anything about it.....

+ 1

I actually have the number of my local dispatch programmed into my phone for "non-emergency" cases like this

and even though they cant do more since you didn't see him drink, there is no reason a cop cant pull in behind and follow him for a few blocks, im sure he would find a reason to pull him over and check

I sure hope the cops did something and didn't just ignore it. You did the right thing. If you see it again, call again.

You did the right thing. The next time tell them you watched him drink it and then he drove away.

Reminds me of the time I came up behind a car that was stopped at a stop sign, and I waited patiently for what I thought was someone being overly cautious. When I realized he was not looking either way, and that no cars were coming from either direction, I got out of my car to see if he was OK. He was passed out drunk with a drink in his lap. I called the cops.

The five lane road we were to enter is normally hot with traffic. The cop did not want to startle the guy in case his foot was on the brake, so he jimmied the lock, opened the door and turned off the ignition. Sure enough, it was still in gear, and he must have had the brakes pressed. Wow. I did not think about that possibility, but I am forever reminded that we share the road with a lot of idiots.

My ex-brother-n-law is on the Ohio habitual offender list. He's currently sitting in jail waiting to be convicted on #6.
He's hasn't had a license since 1998 it's been suspended the whole time. No license won't stop a true drunk.
I wouldn't feel a bit bad about what you did, that guy didn't feel a bit bad about placing your life and others in danger.

Thanks Man, You did the right thing. You could have saved quite a few lives. As for the local cops, have they never heard of a breathalizer. They could have done something, they just didn't want too.

Anyway, kind of reminds me of our "Skip day party" in high school. Me and a friend got there late and everyone was intoxicated. One even grabbed a pistol and started shooting up a trash can. All the keys were in the cars and the windows were down, one guy also had his trunk open. We walked around gathered all the keys, locked them in his trunk and left.

On the way out we passed the cops coming in. No one was charged because they were on private property, and no one was killed trying to drive either.
