Well as a side note on this engine. This is what I found in the oil pan upon removal. No idea what it is, or what it came off. Was just in their. The windage tray was in real nice shape, so thats not it. So was the pick up tube. I have no idea. The piece is around 1 1/2 inches.
The rod journals, are nice and smooth, and shinny. havnt taken the cranck out yet, I'm taking a brake.

I have decided to give it a good hone, and go from their.
sire i'll try the ring thing, thanks.

Take a look at the cam bearings and see if any of them are missing their material.

I can’t tell the size of that FOD, but it looks like bearing material. I’ve pulled **** out of the pan that looked like that from a trashed crank thrust bearing.

That engine isn’t worthy of new parts. Re-ring it if you have no other choice but I wouldn’t throw performance parts at a sub par cylinder. Soup sandwich.

What’s the rest of it measure up to? That trash is all smashed up, it hit a lot of high-speed metal on the way down.

It doesn't look like bearing. It looks like tin... The oil guide for the timing set, or part of a slinger? Or some sheet metal that flew in it while the engine was open at some point in it's life... I've found some weird stuff in engines that ran just fine.

Have to say we took apart a Chrysler 2.2 and found broken piston rings in the pan. Pulled the pistons.None were missing any rings...?

plain iron rings
reuse stock pistons
do try that light seal test- good idea
new valve stem seals
also check for missing bushings
could run a long time or at least enough time to find a new block or a take out magnum
"none were missing any rings" sounds like a dealer quickie
