Ok guys, thinking about selling the 1973 349 Dart Sport. Im not totally firm on this yet but im getting REAL close to doing it. I guess ebcause of $$$$ im just not as into it as I used to be. I drive it VERY little last year I put MAYBE 100 miles on the car and not a lot the year before either. I dont really have time for shows anymore cant really take in a full show as the kid(who always wants to go but also always wants to ONLY stay at max 2-3 hours) kinda puts a damper on it. And now with kids=less $$$ to spend on the car anyways.

So I guess I may as well ask. Whats a 1973 Dart Sport with a 340 auto tranny go for these days? no rust(that i know of) decent paint but not "show" paint more of daily driver paint job.runs and drives well(drove it from Buffalo NY to Williamsport PA(about 4 hour drive) when I bought it without a hitch. not a race car or anything has a stock(or close to it) grind cam.

Well any other questions let me know.

omg how do I make those SMALLER! lol on most sites im on when you include pictures it puts in a SMALL picture to click on and then it gets bigger lol....but not this site i guess....

only thing i can think it really needs is a new headliner..ive been meaning to do that for 3 YEARS now but never really got around to it.

I remember when you switched from the RR to the 340 Dart Sport. Was this your inlaw's 340?

It is really tough to say what the car would actually sell for today. Obviously the market has really changed due to the economic crisis.

If the car is accident free, paint is decent and the mechanical end is very good (which as you said - appears to be the case), it all comes down to someone falling in love with your car.

Two years ago things were much easier to sell; today is tough.

So my guess is ...around $5500 - 6,000 ... but the caveat is finding the right buyer.

There may also be someone willing to spend more for your car ... You could always Ebay the car and roll the dice but I have found that many cars on Ebay never actually change hands...the deals are not often completed.

If you wait until Carlisle you obviously have your best chance there and likely your best price / offer there.

Whatever you decide with it...all the best!

Yup same car good memory :) . Your right about that(selling stuff) and the economy. And im thinking hard about Carlisle. I missed it last year and thats where I normally judge the marketplace. I will have to see :) .

Would you please post a few more photos showing it from the front, rear, inside and under the hood. What rear and gears, Etc. I would love to have her but not working right now. I do know a lot of Mopar friends then there is also the Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals coming up Jul 10 - Jul 12, 2009.

There is a guy in my area with a 1973 340 Dart Sport, nice car. Top Banana, auto, console, & buckets. Resto type restoration. He has been asking $7000.00, he has been trying to sell it for 6-months. No calls he told me. I would love to have this car, but with everything like it is, I can't make the jump.

Is the drivers fender damaged? hard to tell from photo,I'd be interested for 5000.00,How far are you from Ottawa?Could you deliver, how much?

my .02 cents: keep it..... you will regret not having it in a few years when your kid is older..... just stow it away if you don't have money to work on it.... unless you are in REAL financial trouble, I'd keep it as long as you can...

I'd keep it, if financially possible. You'll "kick" yourself later if you sell it. In today's market you might fetch $6000. In a good market it would bring
$8,000-$10,000. JMO

If you sell it you will never be able to get back in the hobby. The money will be gone and the prices will be higher.

I know but I guess im just not as "into" it as I was before. I still like to go to say a car show and look at the cars and cruise ins to look at cars. What im NOT into anymore or just does not thrill me is actually taking the car to shows or cruise ins and setting there for hours basically doing nothing. I like to go to shows...look around at all the cool cars then just go home. Ive never enjoyed wrenching on cars..as a matter of fact I HATE working on them..I just love the way they look and sound and the power. if you could whip a 69 RoarRunner chassis on a modern car id love it..something I can do basic maintainance to wash wax treat nice and drive all year long :) . So to be honest I dont know if id sell if id actually want back in..love to look at them at shows love to drive them around HATE to work on them as im not a mechanic by trade.

I WILL probably end up keeping it by default as I probably will NOT get enough $$ out of it to make it worth selling in this market/economy. but Ive honestly totlay put it on the backburner. I have a lot of other stuff that id rather have and be doing with my $$$ at this time (got into some shooting sports lkike long range rifle shooting and competitions and those guns and ammo are NOT cheap) I mean I want to get a Sharps Rifle..they are around $1200-2200...that means not a cent will be going into the Dart..I just figured if someone that just had more passion for the hobby right now got it that they would do more with it/appreciate it more.

Plus at this point IF something actually goes wrong with the Dart that would actually require any significant amount of $$$( over $300 say) its just staying broke.. Just hate throwing $$ into something I really dont drive or use much anymore. I mean its totally financially possible to keep it. Im not bad off that way..its just that it does not get the attention it deserves anymore. less than 100 miles on it 3 years running..Ive started it 1 time since December...back in April I turned it over just to see if it still ran..and its sat since..just been too busy(and LAZY) to mess with it.

now im sure this could all change. Ive got back into stuff before. I mean yesterday seeing my Father in Laws freshly painted 1970 Coronet R/T kinda got me back in the mood :).

no, must just be a paint reflection. decently far from Ottawa. Im about 4-5 hours from Niagara Falls if that gives you a idea. I honestly dont know how far the Falls is from Ottawa though I know Totonto is another 1.5 hours though(from the falls if i remember right) and im looking for more than $5000 being a #'s matching 340 car.

sounds about what id be asking. Its not a pro restoration by an means :) but its also not a total hack job or anything. looks good runs and drives nice. but I honestly didnt take into account the economy and the soft market right now. I hadnt been to Carlisle in 2 years now(had been for the 12 years straight before the last 2) I dont know maybe I will just suck it up and keep it..its mine, i own it free and clear its not like I am FORCED to put any $$$ into it..if I wanted to let it sit for 20 years I guess I honestly could(i wont but its not like im FORCED to put $$ into it). so maybe I will just keep it till the market returns to where it should be :) .

you know what I think your right. Id not let it go for that cheap.($6000 or less) im looking more for the upper range you listed and If I cant get that I will just keep it..and so far..seems like you right..Im not even getting offers at the upper range and I refuse to sell it for less..so im just gonna keep it. I didnt really kick myself for selling the RoadRunner so I dont think id kick myself...but who knows.

i kinda agree with this price. it could go up or down after seeing the engine compartment, interior and under carriage.

Sorry I didnt get back to anyone quicker. Been busy with some real life stuff and work.. While I guess its technically still "for sale" looks like im not gonna get what I want ot think its worth in this market so I think I will just keep the for sale sign up but "keep it" for now. I just can not let it go for some of the offers im getting $5,000-6500 its just not worth it to me at that point. As a matter of fact im gonna go take the cover off it a bit later and get it started up to go pick up the kid from Day Care with it and gotta get it scheduled for its inspection on Friday. I guess im just gonna try to drive it more and see what happens :) .

whats keeping you from doing that? take the car to a cruise, go look around and then leave. don't do "shows" only do cruises. get out and drive and enjoy the car more. hell we drive 2 hours to a little show/block party in the poconos. the show has maybe 15 cars but its more about enjoying the drive up there. we try to do a poker run every wear also. a ton of fun. drive stop to stop. stay a little time at each stop and the rest of the time its cruising about 100 miles through the pinelands. there are tons of ways to enjoy the car without going to stupid shows. heck put the kids in the car and go for ice cream.

engine compartments a mess..just because its not detailed(wires all over :) ) its not bad looking or trashed just not "neat". under carriage is good. And I think at that price range its a keeper :) id never sell it for that little after seeing what cars in similar shape were selling for at carlisle(not listed for actually SELLING for) 2 years ago. market was better but I kept walking around saying no way this car is a 10,000 car but thats what cars of similar age with #'s matching were selling for back in 2006....

lol last time I went for ice cream with wife and kid in the car the oil pressure hose(one that goes to the interior gauge unit) came off at the block and sprayed oil all OVER lol. what a mess...stuff like that is what scares me lol... I know thats a freak occurrence(and has since been replaces with braided steel one so that WONT ever happen again(at least it didnt come off on the INSIDE of the car)! But in a way thats the kind of stuff that bugs me..if something thats a bigger cost item(say the tranny went) its not getting fixed any time soon...maybe I just need to quit worrying about stuff and drive it lol..:toothy10:

thanks for the support and advice though im gonna take that..gonna go get the cover off and get her running this morning :) .

i hear ya. market was crazy back then. whole new ball game now. cars are still going for too much but not as crazy as back then. hell jamie told some guy that she would sell her dart for $13K and he didn't walk away..lol. hell i would have laughed and said ya good luck..

you have two choices.

1) your not a car guy and shouldn't own an old car if stupid things like that bother you so much. its old, **** like that and maybe worse is going to happen.

2) stop worrying about it and drive and enjoy the car. stuff is going to happen and you really have no control over that. ofcourse you should go over the car from time to time and make sure everything is right with it.

For what its worth. I was bidding on a car similar to yours on e bay last week. Original 340 car A/c, power brakes and power steering go wing perfect interior no rust according to the seller and none found in all of the pictures I checked out. Didnt reach the reserve price so I called the guy was going to go up this weekend to buy it. He agreed to sell it for $7500. He relisted it on e bay and had his buy it now price of $7500 and sold it before I could buy it. I guess I should have drove up last weekend but I was too busy. Anyway just thought I would let you know what an original 340 numbers matching sold for last week.

2 is not so bad. Thats basically what ive been doing between a 70 Charger 500, 70 RoadRunner, 66 Baracuda, 69 Road Runner, and now the Dart Sport since 1987 :) . I think I the cronology of what ive owned right :).
