are there any advantages on one or the other? I'm shopping for the best over all motor, built for street(but want it a little WILD 400-450hp) . 68' barracuda notchback 8 3/4 323 904 and 4 dics brakes from mpb. What would you guys do?

The 360 engine for more cubes the bore size will give you and a cheaper stroker piston. Bearing sizes count when your raceing the strip for money in a big way. As in BIG dollors.

I am planning to build a 408 using a 360 block I found on CL. If you have a 318 and want to stroke it, more power to ya! If you're starting from scratch, get a 360.

Anyone have any opinions on the 318 stroker built by Car Craft March 2010.
They had $5000 into it. 402ci
Article states they are advantages to building 318 instead of 360.

Anyone read this and have opinions?

360....and you don't need to stroke it to get the h.p. you want..

You can make 400 horsepower with a 318. I would not worry about building a stroker for that power level. I agree with stroked 340 get a 360 and be happy.

I 3rd stroked340's idea.
There is no advantage that I see in using a 318 including initial cost... Because the pistons I would use for the 4" stroke 318 are more cash than any 340/360 piston evening that out.

If you don't already have a 318 I'd just get a 360. As the others have said, you can get 400-450hp out of a stock stroke 360 without too much difficulty and still save over buying the stroker kit.

I probably post this every time someone asks about this, but this is a bunch of 360 rebuilds with dyno #'s. About half the rebuilds make 400 hp or more.

Rather than stroking the 360, go with head work. If you can get heads that flow close to 260 cfm (ie, ported stock heads or the new RHS heads), you can make 450 hp with 10:1 compression and a good, streetable cam.

Some of those combos are nice but,i doubt very much that package #8 makes that much h.p....

Long stroke and small bore do not work. Use the 360 block. It's .090 bigger at standard and then you can bore it. JMO

Use a 360!!!! Don't waste time on that 318...I like the 318, but if you are gonna spend the money on a stroker kit, a 360 kit would be money better spent
