Ok, I need some help. I need to come up with a plan on the transmission for the 65 Barracuda. Should I stick with the 65 904 with dual pumps, B&T joint, shifter cables and no aftermarket support or go with something newer? The conversion cable is priced fair at $160. If I went with a newer transmission, which one? 904, 998, 999, lockup, nonlock up? Will there be any issues going to a different transmission on the 273? I recall the 273 has a smaller hub reciever in the crank than the 318 or 360.

I ended up going to a newer trans with slip yoke, I'm running 4-speed though. I've got a 65 273 904 style trans here and I have a newer one here also. I would probably go newer myself, but what's you plans for the car? If original is what you are after then I would find good shop to build what you have.

The 273 is about 275hp. I had ideas of autocross at one point. Mostly a cruiser

Fish, did you see my EVBC post? Old trans can be rebuilt, shift kit, even convertor rebuilt to whatever stall you want within reason. New trans is...new trans, new driveshaft, new shifter, and possibly new convertor if the new trans cant use your old donut. your crank has the small register so the new convertor must have it too, no bushing will make it bigger. B&T can be rebuilt, plenty strong. I did it and miss the smooth cable shifted trans. I have a full ratcher shifter that is a PITA now. $160 for the cable thingy? yikes.

To replace the standard cables with new is almost $400. But mine work fine. Im sure the transmission is fine too. I have most of the parts to do the 65 trans to U-joint conversion.

Who carries the shift kits for the 65 904?

Thanks
